This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “Praise ye the LORD!”. His text is Psalm 150. Some come to church expecting to be entertained; but we call this place Tabernacle of Praise! Today, we declare with the Psalmist, “Praise ye the LORD!”. What would we do without His Presence and Power in our lives? For this, we Praise the LORD! The word “praise” comes from a Latin word which means “to prize”. When we praise God, we are expressing our appreciation for the value and merit of the “prize” that God is to us. That is, God has first place in our lives and in our hearts. We praise God because we love Him. The word “praise” in this context also means to “make a show by cheering and celebrating”. Therefore, as we praise the LORD today, we prize God with the highest honor with cheerfulness and celebration because our LORD is the only One worthy of such honor and praise!

This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “What We Will Do in the Day of Battle”. His text is Psalm 20:1-9. This is a Psalm of David written to the Chief Musician of the Temple. David has written many psalms, but this psalm is different. This psalm is the voice of the people that pray for David as he is in preparation for battle, and he joins them in prayer. If David and his men lose, so do the people of God. In battle, not only are the soldiers in the field imperiled, but those who remain behind, as they will be plundered by the enemy. And so when called upon to respond to the shofar of battle, we do not stay home. We do not quit. We do not hide, but we gather under the tribal banner with our brother and neighbor to do our part in the battle. But we do not win our own salvation. And neither can anyone else. It is not our fight; and it is not by our own strategies that we can defeat the enemy. The battle belongs to the LORD! It is God alone Who can save us! We will, therefore, rejoice in Thy Salvation, O God!

This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “Have You Considered My Servant Job?”. His text is Job 1:8. When one mentions the Book of Job, most of us are inclined to think of Job’s pain; we remember Job’s losses; the loss of all his possessions, his children, his excruciating illness, and all his sorrow, as he endures the test of God at Satan’s hand. Then of course, we remember Job’s double portion blessing at the end. But the theme of this historical narrative is not Job’s pain and weeping, neither is it about Job’s double blessing. The purpose of this narrative is theological. This book is a revelation of Job’s experiences of faith as he struggles to understand Who God is and when God does not act the way that Job thinks God should act. These are very important lessons for us today. Some say God has brought suffering to us because they say there must be sin in our life. Some are trying to “command God” or to “prophesy and declare things to be” as if they were “little gods” or had the authority of God to do so. Job did not try to command God. Job also did not pretend like these things weren’t happening; and he grieved appropriately. Although he questioned the suffering, in all these things he did not sin. He fell to the ground and worshipped God.
It is through his testing that Job comes to realize how great God really is and that, furthermore, God is not under any obligation to tell us what He is doing. And so the question is, when things happen in your life that you do not understand, things that are painful, unfair and undeserved, what will you do?

This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “For the Hand of the Lord was Upon Me”. His text is Ezra 7:28. The Jerusalem Temple had been captured and destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C., and the Israelites taken away into captivity. As had been prophesied, God preserved a remnant that made their way back to Jerusalem after 70 years; but they had begun to intermarry with the surrounding pagans, including the priests. It is during this time of spiritual apathy that God raised up Ezra and Nehemiah to bring spiritual reform to His people. Both men were born in Babylon and had become recognized leaders. Both men sensed the call of God upon their hearts and left the comforts of Babylon to endure the long, difficult journey to Jerusalem to instruct and sanctify its priests. All throughout this book, Ezra declares that the hand of the Lord is upon him. Without God’s Presence we are hopeless and will not succeed. When was the last time you sensed the hand of the Lord upon you to work for God?

This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “My Two Sons”. His text is Matthew 20:20-23. The ministry of Jesus is coming to a climax with His imminent crucifixion and resurrection, after He and His disciples leave Caesarea Philippi for the last time. On the way back to Jerusalem, as the disciples are walking and squabbling among themselves as to whom should be greatest in the Kingdom of God, Jesus again reminds them that He is going to be killed. It is here that Salome, the mother of James and John, asks Jesus, “Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on Thy right hand and the other on the left, in Thy Kingdom”. Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking”. Contrary to her critics, Salome is not overstepping her bounds when she asks Jesus for the best positions for her sons. This is a mother asking of God the best for her children. Years later, James would be beheaded and John would suffer persecution and be exiled on the island of Patmos. Remember, mothers, that when you ask that your children be saved and follow Christ, that the greatest in His Kingdom will be the servant of all and often the first to suffer. There are requests and prayers that mothers pray and there are tears that mothers suffer for their children. Such is the cross that Salome bears as the mother of James and John, but how proud of her sons she must have been, that they continued on to follow in the way of Jesus and receive Eternal Life. Mothers, are you willing to bear the heartache of your children’s suffering for following Christ? The way of the cross is painful, but how joyous will be Eternal Life!

This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “But I Have Chosen Jerusalem”. His text is II Chronicles 6:6. As long as Israel has had a capital city, Jerusalem has been that City. Prior to the crossing of the Jordan River, and the possessing of the Promised Land, God commands His people to destroy all the places whom the Israelites disposes that serve false gods, but to seek the place that the LORD will choose. Originally, the site of the Temple was the threshing floor of Araunah, the Jebusite. God commanded King David to build an altar on that spot, and confirmed that this indeed is the site where the Holy Temple was to be built. Payment for the land was made from each of the twelve tribes, 50 shekels of silver from each, totaling 600 shekels, in order that Jerusalem, although technically located in Benjamin, belongs to all. In 2017, President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, despite warnings not to do so from within and beyond the Arab world. U.S. allies and foes alike expressed dismay with some warning it could trigger violence. The prophet Zechariah speaks of the day in which the nations of the world shall be gathered against and siege Jerusalem. One can already see the alliance of nations forming against Israel. The name “Jerusalem” means “possession of peace”. Although it is hardly a possession of peace, one day, it shall be the City of Peace. With every passing day, we are closer to the LORD’s coming, and the fulfillment of His promises concerning Jerusalem and His reign of true justice and peace. At that time, all the nations of the earth shall be gathered to Jerusalem, and walk no more in their wicked ways. Jerusalem shall be lifted up above the hills and peoples shall flow to it and many nations shall come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may teach us His ways and that we may walk in His paths’. (Micah 4:2) We will walk in the name of the LORD our God forever and ever.

This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “Yet the Birthright Belonged to Joseph”. His text is I Chronicles 5:2. In 538 B.C., Cyrus issued his decree for the return of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin to the land of Israel. The 10 northern tribes have long since been disseminated by the Assyrians and scattered for their sinful idolatry. The southern tribes of Judah and Benjamin have also been punished for their sins. Now, after 70 years, these Jews having returned are confused and disoriented. The Chronicler provides hope of the rebuilding of the Temple, the restoration of the Priesthood, and the fulfillment of the Davidic covenant. God has a plan for His people, despite their sinful and rebellious past. The fact is that there is not one person, not one tribe, and not one family that merits the promises of God that come to us by way of Jesus Christ. But the Chronicler reminds us of God’s faithfulness, despite our sinful pasts. God is faithful, despite our failures!

This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “And the Iron Did Swim”. His text is II Kings 6:1-7. The date is approximately 848 BC. The prophetic ministry of Elijah has been thriving and has expanded under the anointed leadership of Elisha. The schools of the prophets located at Gilgal, Bethel and Jericho are filled to capacity and a new facility is being built. The students had the noble task of cutting down the necessary trees with which to make their dwelling, but as one was felling a beam, his axe head fell into the water and sank in the muddy Jordan River. It was borrowed and he did not have the money to compensate for it, nor did he have any way to retrieve it. An iron axe head cannot float, let alone swim. He did not complain to the prophet, but he did not ask in faith either. What is your need today? We are to ask God in faith. To have faith in God is to believe that God is always with us. God sets the bounds of our trials, and He also determines the circumstances, including wayward axe heads, and has a purpose in it: in this case, to increase the faith of the sons of the prophets. And so the prophet Elisha cut down a stick, cast it in the water, and the iron did swim. To God be the glory! Our faith is greater as a result of our trial!

This message is brought forth by Rev. Daniel Pierce and is entitled, “…the Keeper Did Shake and Became as Dead Men”. His text is Matthew 28:1-4 and verses 11-15. Earlier, the Roman centurion who had thrust his spear into Jesus’ side, seeing the darkness of Golgotha and feeling the earthquake, confessed “Surely this Man was the Son of God”. After the crucifixion of Jesus, Pontius Pilate had soldiers stationed at the gravesite, for fear that His disciples would come and attempt to steal His body. Then suddenly at daybreak there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from Heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it! And the guards trembled and became as dead men for fear of the angel. God was providing the opportunity for even the Roman soldiers to come to faith. The invitation of the angel to come and see where the Lord lay, was not only for the women, nor Jesus’ closest disciples. It was also for the Roman soldiers guarding the tomb. Salvation was also extended to those who killed Jesus, the Son of God. Friend, Jesus extends His gift of salvation to you today. It doesn’t matter where you have been or what you have done- if you believe that Jesus was crucified for your sins in your place, was buried and raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, you shall be saved. And He shall grant you joy, peace and eternal life forevermore. The Roman keepers of the tomb did shake and become as dead men at the presence of the Heavenly angel who rolled the stone away from the entrance of the tomb, so that they too, could see that He is risen, even as He said!
