Your baby is allowed to cry during church.

I know it can feel embarrassing when your baby starts fussing in the middle of the sermon. You feel every eye turn toward you and suddenly all you want to do is disappear into the floor.

But babies make noise. They cry. They babble. They wiggle. That is what babies do.

A church full of silent children is a church that is not growing.

Your baby belongs there just as much as anyone else. They are part of the congregation, even if they are too little to understand the message.

So if your baby cries, take care of them if needed, but do not feel guilty for bringing them.

The sound of babies in church is the sound of families worshipping together. It is the sound of a church that has a future.

You are welcome there, and so is your baby.

Don’t be scared to take your babies to church.

Yes, they might cry.
Yes, you may miss half the sermon.
Yes, you’ll probably spend time walking the halls or bouncing a baby in the back.

But your children deserve to grow up in the presence of God.
They deserve to hear worship music filling the room.
They deserve to see people praying.
They deserve to know church is a safe and normal part of life.

And you do too.

Church may be the only time you get out of the house that week.
The only time you put on real clothes.
The only adult conversation you have.
The only place that reminds you there’s still a world outside of laundry, dishes, and motherhood.

A loud baby in church is not a bad thing.
It’s a sign that the church is alive.

Lambs are not smart
they wander
they follow the wrong voice
they drift farther than they meant to

they don’t realize they’re lost
until they are already too far

and if we’re honest

that sounds a lot like us

we chase what looks good
we trust what feels right
we drink from things
that were never meant to satisfy

and then one day

we look up

and we’re far

far from peace
far from truth
far from home

and we don’t know how to get back

because lambs don’t find their way home

the shepherd does

He goes after them

not when they’ve figured it out
not when they’ve cleaned themselves up
not when they’ve proven they can do better

but while they are still lost

still wandering
still unaware
still weak

He finds them there

and He doesn’t stand over them
disappointed

He kneels

He gathers

He lifts

places them on His shoulders
or holds them close
against His chest

and carries them

because the truth is

you were never meant
to find your own way back

you were always meant
to be found

so if you feel far

if you feel like you’ve gone too far
made too many wrong turns
trusted too many wrong things

hear this

He is not waiting at the end
for you to figure it out

He is already coming for you

already stepping into the places
you thought He wouldn’t go

already reaching for you

and the distance you think
disqualifies you

is the very reason
He moves toward you

because lambs are not smart

but the Shepherd

He never loses
what is His

and He will carry you

all the way home 🤍

Four years.
It took me four years to completely read through the Bible.

It began with an app.
Listening while pushing a stroller.
Listening while nursing a baby.
Listening at bedtime.

Then, slowly, verses became highlighted and memorized.
Stories earmarked.
Words circled.
Phrases boxed with pencil.

A sacred, muddled and redeeming journey.

My younger sister once said something that really struck my heart...
..she could never imagine getting to Heaven, coming face-to-face with God, and telling Him that she simply did not have time to read HIS Book. His ultimate love letter. His Word. His life guide for each of us.

What a humbling and powerful statement.

There's never a better time to pick up His Word.
Even more so, there's never been a better time to start a relationship with our Savior.

For He has never left.
You are never too far gone.
He's been right here waiting all along.
And He is not going anywhere but right by our sides.

My sister's words still surround my heart-even on those days I feel completely unworthy of His love and grace.

Our Bibles don't need to be perfect. Messy, marked up and circled truths are just as beautiful as our sin meeting God's grace. May we let the margins hold our prayers, tears stains and and words of gratitude-just as we let our Heavenly Father hold our guilt and fears-while simultaneously covering us with His undeserved favor and blessings.

I could never imagine getting to Heaven and trying to explain to God why I didn't have time to read His Word.

So, I'm reading it again.

Because, I'd love nothing more than to tell Him, "Heavenly Father, Your Word was so beautifully life-changing, I looked forward to reading it each and every day!" ♥️
