In her sermon for Sunday, April 26th, Good Shepherd Sunday, Mother Jimmie Sue talks about shepherding. Each year, we are invited into peaceful pastures, safety, guidance and care. It's also an invitation to follow and lead us into life. And, unexpectedly, Jesus names himself as both the shepherd and the gate. It's a movement of passage where transition takes place from one space to another, from confinement to openness and from exposure to safety.

Easter Sunday

04/05/2026

In her sermon for Good Friday, April 3rd, Mother Jimmie Sue explains that Jesus moves from the beginning of the end in the Garden of Gethsemane to the end of the beginning in another garden. His people did not know him, yet those who received Him, who believed in His name, were given the power to become children of God. Every day, Jesus spoke truth to power. The truth of love and peace, of mercy and forgiveness, of compassion and justice and something larger and beyond themselves.

In her sermon for Sunday, March 29th, Palm Sunday, Mother Jimmie Sue explains that celebration and tension sit side-by-side as it is also called Passion Sunday. Shouts of hosannah are followed by betrayal and arrest. Jesus enters Jerusalem at a time when tensions are running high in the city. Passover is approaching. It is a feast of freedom where pilgrims gather together to remember their release from slavery and oppression. In the meantime, the Roman authorities are hypervigilant because they are wary of unrest. Jesus followers, like their ancestors who followed Moses out of Egypt, dared to hope that liberation may be at hand.
