1 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2
Good Friday. Christians, all over the world, take time to reflect on the events that took place more than 2000 years ago that resulted in Jesus' suffering and crucifixion. Many Christians fall into feelings of guilt at this time of year, with a belief that their particular sin nailed the Son of God to that cross.
But we're exhorted to lay aside sin and our thoughts - guilt - about it, and move forward into the plans God has for us as we partner with Him, and each other, in expanding His Kingdom!
Jesus despises the shame we feel as a result of sin as that shame places a barrier between us and Him. Look to the cross as a profession of our Father's love for you, and for me. After all, WE are the joy that was set before Him! Jesus looked at the cross with love, and Papa punctuated the moment of our restoration to Him by tearing the symbol of our separation - the curtain covering the Holy of Holies - from top to bottom. That's not a passive love. That's a passionate, relentless love!
