“For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring.”
Isaiah 44:3 NKJV
Heat wave! Extreme heat warnings have been in place for the past few weeks! Unfortunately, some plants are drying up, flowers are wilting, and the grass is quickly turning a golden color rather than its usual green. The earth is thirsty!
These days, I’ve been carrying around my Stanley water bottle! It’s filled with ice, a slice of lemon, and 32 ounces of water! Every time I feel overwhelmed by the heat, all I have to do is take a sip of that cold, iced lemon water and I feel immediately refreshed! 💦
In the days of the prophet Isaiah, water was not so easily accessible. The people traveled mostly on their own two feet along pathways that led through deserts and high, rocky places. When their water supply ran dry, it became a matter of life and death. Yet the Lord promised to provide water in the wilderness and on high plateaus—places where water would not normally be found. He did this so His people would know that God Himself was their Provider. He alone could satisfy their thirst!
There will be times when we walk through a spiritual heat wave—seasons when life feels dry like a desert and our resources seem to be quickly drying up.
We long for the sweet waters of the blessings we once enjoyed. We long to drink again from the waters of a joyful, thriving ministry and experience the bliss of everything around us moving forward with strong, purposeful momentum.
We may even long for the youthful strength and health in our bodies that once allowed us to move swiftly and purposefully forward.
But instead, we find ourselves facing the fiery darts of spiritual warfare or walking through the dry desert of a prolonged trial.
But we are God’s children, and we are armed with God’s unfailing promise:
“I will pour water on him who is thirsty.”
He will provide water for the thirsty.
He will send floods to the dry ground.
He will pour out His Spirit.
And His promise doesn’t stop with us—it extends to our descendants and our offspring!
What an encouragement! God can bring refreshing to the most unlikely places. He can cause streams to flow in our wilderness and bring life to ground that looks completely dried up. And when He does, we will know it was God who did it!
Today, especially in the midst of this terrible heat, my prayer is that God would pour out His Spirit upon us, our children, and our descendants. Bring refreshing to every dry place and let our lives testify that You alone are our Source! May we glorify God for the refreshing, life-giving waters that He provides to refresh our body, mind, and soul.
God is faithful! 💧
“I will pour water on him who is thirsty.”
