HOLINESS IN CHRISTIAN DRESSING

TEXT: MATTHEW 5:14-15
(14) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
(15) Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

KEY VERSE: 2 CORINTHIANS 7:1
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Christians are guided by the scripture on how they should live their lives including dressing. The people of the world say they have freedom in dressing and go about dressing in nakedness, claiming they are not dressing for anybody else; but they are on the street where everybody walks. Even in the secular world there is limitation to freedom of speech. Does this mean that you are free to dress as you want to the extent that others are offended or defiled by your actions?

Christian dressing should not be according to the pattern of the world. Painting of face with lipsticks, powder, etc., and n**e dressing are the pattern of harlots (Proverbs 7:10), and Christians must avoid it. They must not copy the fashions and designs of the world aimed at corrupting the society. The fashion of the world passes away (1 Corinthians 7:31).

Deuteronomy 22:5
The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

Wearing of trousers (pants) by women is condemned by God no matter the style (Deuteronomy 22:5). Trousers are associated with men even in Bible days. It was called Hosen and the three men thrown into Nebuchadnezzar furnace wore one (Daniel 3:21). All tight fitting clothes by men and women should be avoided. The use of jewelry: earrings, necklaces, chains and wedding rings have been condemned by the scripture and should be avoided by Christians waiting for the coming of their Savior in rapture (Genesis 35:1-5, Exodus 33:4-6).

It is disobedience for a woman to pray or prophesy or even come into the presence of God with her head uncovered. The Bible says if she will not cover her head let her be shorn and if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn, then she should cover her head (1Corinthians 11:6). Head covering is a symbol of power upon the woman’s head because of angels; orderliness is golden (1 Corinthians 11:10). Judge in yourselves; is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

Cleanse yourselves from all these filthiness and be holy.

*PATTERN OF WORSHIP ACTIVITIES IN THE BIBLE*

*TEXT: NEHEMIAH 8:1-12* (Please refer to your KJV Bible for scripture reference)

*KEY VERSE: 1 TIMOTHY 2:8*
I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Today’s text gives us a good understanding of the pattern of worship activities in the Old Testament which is similar to that of the New Testament.

We observe the following:

• The congregation come together to hear the Word of God which was central to their activities.

• Ezra, the priest, was the pastor of the congregation having other elders and workers to support him in ministry.

• The Word was read and they listened attentively.

• Ezra stood on a pulpit together with some supportive elders.

• Ezra led the people in a period of praise and worship of God.

The people answered, "AMEN!" Amen, with lifting up of hands which is similar to that of the New Testament. Ezra opened and read the Book of the Law in the sight of the people who stood in honor of the Word of God and caused them to understand. The Word convicted the people and they wept, prayed and repented before the Lord. The people rejoiced for the Word of God and presence of God among them.

In our key verse, the public worship recorded in the Scripture emphasized holiness of the worshippers. When Jesus was in the flesh, He sang hymns but no record of dancing. This is completely absent in most assemblies today. The Word of God is no longer exalted and honored. How will the congregation be convicted when the Word of God has lost its centrality, emphasis, attraction, authority, or convicting power?

We must go back to the pattern of worship in the Scripture that gives the Word of God recognition. We must avoid multiple dancing and entertainment in the name of praise-worship during worship service. Do away with noisy church and usher into the church soberness and due attention required for the convicting power of God to be released in the holy Church of God.

IN HOLINESS MOVEMENT YOU ARE SECURED

TEXT: 1 PETER 1:15-16
(15) But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
(16) Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

KEY VERSE: HEBREWS 13:8
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.

Holiness is the summary of the Gospel of Christ. The Holy God lives in Heaven, and came to the world to save man to live holy so that He will take him (man) to live with Him in Heaven. The voice of God calling for holiness is scarce in our days, but thank God for Holiness Movement, many people are being enlightened to the true doctrine of God, and sinners are being convicted. Believers now live with the consciousness of the rapture. There are testimonies by men and angels that Jesus Christ is the owner of the Movement and has chosen Pastor Paul Rika as the human leader to direct the affairs of the Movement.

1 Peter 1:15-16
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

Jesus promised to protect this Movement to the end, and we see this manifesting. In a revelation someone bewitched a gift from another country and brought it to somebody in Holiness Camp, Abuja, Nigeria. However, when the item got to the Camp the power of witchcraft in it was broken; praise the Lord. In another revelation Sis Linda Rika saw satan pursuing her, and she ran and got to a place and a glass covered her. Satan wanted to break the glass but could not and she asked satan, “why are you pursuing me? Am I the only one that received revelation from God?” The devil said all others who received such revelations have used their hands to destroy it but you are tough to get; thank God you are with that man, Pastor Paul Rika.

Do you now see why we say you are secured in HOREMOW? Jesus is preserving it with a supernatural glass. During one of the conferences of the ministry, the Lord revealed that the number of angels round about the camp were more than the participants in the conference, stretching to Giri town, Airport Junction, which is beyond 10 kilometers. Holiness Revival Movement has the word that convicts, saves and takes to Heaven. It is quite different from other places where the people cooperate with those committing immorality, stealing money, telling lies, and making satan to be proud. Be assured that every genuine member is secured. Strive to be genuine in your service.

THE PRINCIPLES OF FINISHING THE RACE

TEXT: ISAIAH 53:1-7
(1) Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
(2) For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
(3) He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
(4) Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
(5) But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
(6) All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
(7) He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

KEY VERSE: ISAIAH 53:4
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

We shall consider three (3) principles in this lesson:

1. Suffering: Jesus was addressed as a Man of sorrows. His ability to suffer showed His credibility because His suffering was required for human salvation. God has only one Son who had not sinned, but He has no son who has not suffered. Suffering builds energy into you and removes pride from you. He led you through this path to humble you. Why are men running from suffering and from the devil? Peter was avoiding crucifixion but as he was running away he met the Lord coming in the opposite direction. When he asked, the Lord told him He was going for second crucifixion since he was escaping from it. He returned and got crucified upside down on the cross. Running the race to avoid suffering will not give you the crown. If you are not ready to lose your marriage, job or reputation for Jesus, you are unfit for the crown. Don't fear imprisonment or assassination if God allows that to be your end.

2. Sacrifice: This is the life that leads to the end. Isaiah 53: 1, 5 says, “Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” What others should have suffered, He took it over to better their lives. He suffered for our sicknesses and gave His body to be crucified. Jesus bore the sins of others. He was oppressed. He suffered for the salvation and suffering of the people. God found man in Christ Jesus.

There is a story of a woman who had a crippled husband. She took him for lunch and served him at the restaurant. She labored to give the husband comfort of life. She was doing it out of sacrifice; not of necessity. When the man was dying, he was full of appreciation for his wife’s sacrifice on him. He wrote a letter to his unborn baby on the greatness of the mother. It is sacrifice that will make your life meaningful.

3. Faith: Don't fear that you will fail; God will be with you. Your flesh shall not see corruption. Don't be afraid of demons; Jesus had confidence on His father to the end of His life. If you know that the just shall live by faith, you will live in victory. Exercise faith in all circumstances. Because Jesus lives, you can face tomorrow. David's faith made him to face Goliath in the name of the Lord. You will live and overcome sin in your life by faith. Faith is not afraid of climbing the mountain or crossing the ocean. In all your living, live by faith.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES ON CHRISTIAN DRESSING

TEXT: MATTHEW 5:14-16

(16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

KEY VERSE: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:31
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of
God.

The Bible does not list the kind of dresses, fashions and designs a believer should adopt. However, it presents guiding principles for Christian dressing, which include the following:
The dress must cover the body to avoid being a stumbling block to others. (1Timothy 2:9)
Avoid worldly fashions and designs aimed at corrupting the society.
(James 4:4).
A woman must not put on a man's dress; neither should a man put on a woman's dress. (Deuteronomy 22:5).
Trousers are strictly for men any form of trouser by whatever name it is called is forbidden for women.
Christian virtues of meekness, gentleness, humility, temperance, goodness and modesty must be seen in the believer's comportment. Avoid flamboyance in dressing (1 Timothy 2:10, 2 Peter 1:5-8, 3:1-6 and Galatians 5:22-23).
The believer must be an example to other believers in his or her clothing. (1 Timothy 4:12)
He or she must not dress to show-off.
(Galatians 5:26)
Projecting the glory of God must be the sole aim in bodily clothing. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Believers have the liberty to use as many designs or styles of clothing as they desire, as long as they do not transgress scriptural principles. Some churches prohibit their members from using some clothes. Some of these prohibitions are the traditions of such churches and have no scriptural backing. We must not condemn anyone for what he or she puts on which does not transgress against the law of decency, nor violate the scripture. What you don't want to put on, another person wants to and he is not sinning against God for doing so.

TOPIC: IN CHRIST IS VICTORY AND REST FOR YOUR SOUL

TEXT: 1 John 2:13-14
13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

KEY VERSE: 1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.

I would never ask of My children to overcome the obstacles and temptations of life for My sake. How vital it is always to refuse temptation at once. It is refused by the glance to Me, the glance of faith. This takes you above that which you know would be wrong, as you just see Me surrounding and upholding you. Just use My victory in temptations of every kind. Crowd out evil by immersing yourself, as far as you can, in what is good and beautiful and joyful and innocent.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Let there be much rest in your life. Times of resting in My presence are never wasted. They are times in which you are restored by Me; times when you are enjoying Me; times when you bring other needs to me. They are times of trust … trust in My answering of your prayers; times when you are giving Me room in which to work! When life is difficult, when you are mentally weary, you must rest …relaxing completely in My love. Rest in Me and give to Me your love, your trust, all that is in you.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

The presence of evil is unceasing, because there is so very much at stake. My child, never hurt Me by failing to trust in My victory over these forces. In obeying what I have told you, there has to be an effort of choice – a choice in trust. But victory is always yours, when you are united with Me.

There are many subtle pressures of evil, which come only to My chosen ones. Things which lower your spirits – depression, anxiety, doubt of Me – must be seen as very definite temptations, from which the sin affecting others can so easily occur. In My arms of love, go forward as a new person, with a song in your heart. Hallelujah, Amen!

TOPIC: FERVENCY IN PRAYER WILL HELP SUCCEED GREATLY IN LIFE

TEXT: Matthew 26:38-44
Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

KEY VERSE: Luke 22:44
And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly: and His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

How can we succeed without prayers? How can we advance in life and move up without prayers? How can we win over the devil that has risen up against us without prayers? Even Jesus during His earthly ministry, often went into a quiet or solitary place and had time to talk with the Father.

Make out time to pray early in the morning. Jesus cut His sleep to pray. Do not sleep all through the night; interrupt it and pray. In today’s devotional text, you can see that Jesus was very troubled. Something was disturbing Him. The fear of suffering that was in His way disturbed Him at that time.

Jesus was asking God to strengthen His human soul so that He could face the fight ahead of Him. God granted Him grace. In fact, the Bible tells us that during this time, He spoke with groaning. It was not a casual prayer. He prayed so fervently that the sweat coming out of His body was like great drops of blood!

Satan cornered you somewhere and you are not serious in prayer? Satan put some sickness in your body and you are not too serious in prayer? Satan is coming to you in bad dreams and you are not fervent in prayer to blow that thing off? Is it suffering that you are passing through and you are not fervent in prayers, so that even if the Lord would not take it away, He should at least speak to you as He spoke to Paul: “My grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9)."

You are a man of marriageable age and your body is yearning for a partner; are you not going to be very serious in prayers so that if the delay is caused by financial constraint God would create an open door, or that God should lead you to your wife; or that God should help you bring your body under control?

You are a young lady that has come of age and people are constantly asking, “How’s your husband,” and this is bringing shame to you. Will you not take the matter to God and pray through for a husband, or pray through that you should not be put to shame, or that God should stop those people from disturbing you? Would you not take it up seriously in prayer?

Thought for the day: A prayerful man or woman is an overcomer.

TOPIC: QUALITIES OF ACCEPTABLE GIVERS

TEXT: 1 Chronicles 29:9-17
Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy. Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name. But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. O Lord our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own. I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.

KEY VERSE: Exodus 35:21 - And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD'S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments.

In Exodus 25:1-8, we see how God through Moses made a call to those who desired His grace and glory among men to give willingly for the construction of the tabernacle and the materials of it. Christ-like givers of the Old Testament responded joyfully and gave joyfully and bountifully for the building of the tabernacle that the Lord might dwell among them for His glory and for the blessing of humanity.

God still gives divine calling today to men and women who desire His glory, righteousness and holiness in the church and in human society around them to give of their money, material resources and service for His service and to support His faithful servants. Again, in today’s devotional text, David desired to build a temple for the worship of Jehovah God and he prepared various kinds of precious materials for the work.

He motivated his people to give freely and willingly for the building of a magnificent temple unto the Lord their God. What looks remarkable here is the manner in which David and His people gave unto the Lord. There are many things to observe in this passage. But let us consider the manner in which these people gave unto the Lord:

i. They gave willingly: none felt coerced or cheated by what he gave.

ii. They gave with a perfect heart: they were in right relationship with God and their fellowmen.

iii. They gave joyfully, counting it a privilege to give to the Lord, being righteous and acceptable to Him.

iv. They gave humbly, acknowledging that what they were giving to God came from Him

v. They gave in praise to God for the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty of God: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is His.

vi. They gave purposefully, for the building of the magnificent temple of God.
