This Mental Health Awareness month post says it all. Guilt and shame stand in the way of personal progress, but there is something to know... Jesus already knows your guilt, your shame, your failures and your flaws. He accepts you and loves you. He waits for you like a father waiting for his long-lost son. Christian change arises out accepting Jesus's love for us and working to live lives that would be pleasing to Him; not because He demands it of us, but because we want to be our best selves for those who genuinely love us.
In Matthew 25:40, Jesus says "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." Carl Jung, the famous Psychiatrist, reflected on this passage. He said "What if you discovered that the least of the brethren of Jesus, the one who needs your love the most, the one you can help the most by loving, the one to whom your love will be most meaningful – what if you discovered that this least of the brethren of Jesus… is you?"
This would mean living the gospel message upon yourself. This would mean being loving, compassionate, and forgiving of yourself. Jesus invites you to do just that!
