Sometimes the biggest battle in life is the battle over who you believe you are.

This Sunday at Local Church Waller we’re continuing our series “Wrestling With God,” talking about what happens when God gives you a new identity.

All throughout the Bible people encountered God and walked away changed. A new name. A new purpose. A new future.

If you’ve ever felt stuck in the labels of your past, this message is for you.

Some of us walked into church limping.

Not physically.

But spiritually.

Limping from past decisions.
Limping from broken relationships.
Limping from seasons that almost took us out.

In Genesis 32, Jacob wrestled with God all night.

And when the night was over, God touched his hip.

Jacob walked away with a limp.

But here’s the part that stood out this week…

The limp didn’t stop him.

The very next morning he faced the thing he had been running from for 20 years.

His brother Esau.

And the moment Jacob stopped trying to control the outcome…

God had already gone before him.

Sometimes God will touch the very thing you’ve been leaning on.

Not to destroy you.

But to teach you to lean on Him.

And sometimes the greatest evidence that you met God…

is not that you walk perfectly.

It’s that you walk differently.

Your limp isn’t your weakness.

It’s your witness.

You may be walking with a limp…

but you’re still walking with God.

Most people aren’t running from God.

They’re running from their past.

From mistakes they wish they could undo.
From conversations they’ve been avoiding.
From consequences that feel like they’re getting closer.

And here’s the tension…

Running works.
For a while.

But eventually what you’ve been avoiding catches up.

And what if the thing you’re most afraid of facing…
is actually where God wants to meet you?

This Sunday we’re starting a brand new series called Wrestling With God.

It’s for the person who:
Feels stuck in old patterns
Is tired of pretending everything’s fine
Has questions they’ve been afraid to ask
Knows they can’t keep running forever

We’re not talking surface-level church answers.

We’re talking about the night Jacob couldn’t run anymore… and how God met him there.

Maybe your breakthrough isn’t in running harder.

Maybe it’s in finally stopping.

That chair used to be mine.

There was a time I was far from God.
Searching. Empty. Trying to fix myself.

But someone loved me enough not to stay silent.

They prayed.
They invited.
They made room for me.

And because of that… I’m part of God’s family today.

There is someone in your life still trying to pay a debt Jesus already covered.

You are not sent to shame them.
You are sent to tell them:

It’s been paid.

Make room for one more
