NOTICE FROM THORNTON FUNERAL HOME:
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved founder, Leon Thornton. In our grief, we celebrate his life and esteemed legacy.
In 1968, Thornton Funeral Home, P.A. was established by Mr. Thornton and his late wife, Margaret Thornton. The funeral home was initially operated from the Thornton’s actual residence, which housed their daughter Lydia, their son Leon, and their niece Tanja. As the family’s commitment to service and community grew, so did their business throughout the years. New chapels were built adjacent to their home, as well as a preparation room, family room, selection room, office space, and more. Service to meet the needs of the community maintained throughout everything.
The funeral home started as a family owned and operated business, and continues to operate as one today. The philosophy of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., birthed through Mr. and Mrs. Thornton, also continues: “It is our purpose to give thoughtful service, and if in so doing we have helped to lighten your burden, our aim has been accomplished.”
Lydia and Tanja serve our families as Funeral Director and Operations Manager, respectively. Leon established the funeral home’s audio and video components. KeShawn, Mr. Thornton’s son born in later years, also had active participation in funeral services and is currently in mortuary school. Collectively with all of our staff, we aim to lighten the burden of families.
And today, as we feel the burden of his passing, we honor who the public knew as Mr. Thornton, but who we also know as “Daddy” “Uncle Thornton” and “Big Daddy”. We will remember his legacy. We will remember his thoughtfulness to our family and our community. But most of all, we will remember how deeply he is loved. Although our hearts are heavy, we are encouraged by the light he carried.
*His services will be announced at a later date.*
