I have been silent on the topic of “Trunk or Treat” in the church. When we hear it is a safer alternative to traditional Halloween or that it is a way to win souls, it sounds good. But it gives me pause when I think about Jesus and the power of His blood. I found myself wrestling with what was being said against what I know and took it to God in prayer, asking if I had it wrong all these years. I reflected on my own experience with Halloween and fear taking root in my life to when I heard a beautiful message on Family Radio that convicted my heart towards Halloween, Santa Claus and the Easter bunny to explaining these images away so my children did not believe the stories they would hear in school. As I wrestled with these thoughts, I heard these words in my mind, “I never knew you”. In that moment, I had the answer to the question I silently asked. Matthew 7:21-23 (KJV) reads:

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

In the past I shared when I made the decision to turn from God, I heard a snap. It took 10 years to understand the sound represented the perceptions of God, woven from childhood, rooted in the lies of Satan. It was easy to turn from God because I had not built my life in His word, the Holy Bible. I was not surrendered to His will. I did not live a life of repenting of sins in Jesus name nor did I turn from wickedness. So, I needed the thread to break. Today, I see life so differently. Thinking about the thread, I am reminded that it takes multiple threads to create a fabric and some threads are so strong, it can be used to create garments or materials that are indestructible. I see life in Christ Jesus the same way. There are threads that represent God’s word that has been woven into who we are through life experiences that cannot break…but will be tested for durability from time to time. There are also threads sewn by our mutual enemy that God wants to remove. Depending on our response, it may be as simple of loosening a few threads to remove the lie. But if we hold on tightly, the thread breaks because it was never created in God’s word. I can see all the threads that make me who I am but I see threads that are discolored and not in unity with God that He is unraveling from me. This past Saturday, I had an opportunity to drive someone to a speaking event at a church. As we neared the building, I recognized the neighborhood and commented on the church I was a member of in the area. I was surprised to learn it was the same building but under a different pastor and name. The building had been renovated and no longer looked as it did when I gave my life to Jesus in 1993. From there, we went to another appointment, and the journey took me past old neighborhoods and ended near my first real church home…”real” because my whole heart was turned to God. What a day! It reminded me of a lesson learned while getting my Associates degree. During my last semester, I traveled to the Prince Frederick campus for two in-person classes I needed to graduate. It required a modified work schedule and my employer agreed. One class was in the middle of the day. Sometimes it was hard to stop what I was doing so I may have driven over the speed limit to get to class on time. It was a public speaking class and I had to present for my final exam. On the day of final, I left home early. As I was driving, I got confused. I was looking at all the beauty around me and did not recognize the scenery. I panicked, and was about to turn on the GPS but recognized a landmark. I realized in my rush to get to class for the semester, I missed the beauty God had provided in the journey. I burst into tears. I had missed the time with God as I journeyed toward something. I repented for being focused on the wrong thing and thanked Him for the lesson learned. While arrival is good, the journey to the destination makes you appreciate it the more. It’s not always going to go the way we prefer but what we learn in the end is more valuable for everlasting life. My name is Patricia. In the consulting industry, the trusted advisor is a coveted role in that the person or company has insight and strategy for a business owner’s success and longevity. LinkedIn refers to a trusted advisor as “a counsellor, a mentor, a guide, a consultant, an aide, a helper, a coach, a teacher, a tutor, a trainer and a confidant.” Forbes magazine posted an article from November 2022 about the role of a trusted advisor. It states “These [trusted] advisors know and understand the drivers and disrupters in the customer’s industry. They know what problems they are facing that are unique to their business, as well as how others have overcome those problems. This understanding is what creates the “trust” part of a trusted advisor.” Two years ago I faced a crossroad and from that life experience I made a declaration that I trust the Holy Spirit and he is my trusted advisor. The Holy Spirit has taken me by the hand and guided me with his eye through these years of surrender in Jesus name. The other morning, as I sat up in bed, I had the understanding that something I had wondered about for nearly 10 years would be answered. It was and I am grateful that while I may not see everything, I can rest in the knowledge the Holy Spirit knows the deep things of God and helps me when I did not even know I needed it…John 14:15-26.

God sees His creation, not our sins.

A few years ago, taught on “Faith, How To Live By It And The Power Of It.” It was the first time I heard a teaching on exactly what I learned from the Holy Spirit. I understood without the test, we won’t know what we can do in Jesus name nor will we receive the spiritual blessings. While my flesh may not always want to go, my spirit welcomes the experiences. I know I will learn and what I learn becomes another weapon in my arsenal. I eventually learned I am a weapon of mass destruction upon the enemy (Revelation 12:11). Something else. Isaiah 53:1 reads “Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?” As I read the chapter, this passage stood out and I saw a reference to Romans 10:16. At the time, I thought it was connecting one of the scriptures from the Faith teaching but it was different…“But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath beloved our report?” It’s about us. A question repeatedly asked because when we believe/have faith, God reveals Himself to us. I used to think blessings consist of job, home, car, avoiding/escaping heartache/pain/suffering. It’s when we go through it, enduring the cross, that we rise up with greater power and authority. We gain the knowledge and understanding God is unstoppable because His strength is revealed through the life experience. We gain in the Spirit realm too. We gain the ability to pray intentionally and purposely for others to the point demons flee. We cast out demons. Essentially, we learn who we really are and what we can do in Jesus name. The thing I don’t think we understand is for demons to stay gone, we need to continually be immersed in God’s word. Satan doesn’t stop trying until we are physically dead but our response is different because we have changed. From my heart to yours…💕

A few months back, I heard a reference to the garden of Eden and that the tree of life was in the midst of it (Genesis 2:9). Admittedly, I focused so much on the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that I overlooked the tree of life that was right there for Adam and Eve to freely partake of. As I sat with this truth and the magnitude of it, I was speechless. You mean to tell me of all the trees that were pleasant to look at and eat, they partnered with the lie?! This is NOT a pointing finger moment but it became a teachable moment for me. I thought about how cunning Satan is in that he would use a place of comfort to manipulate Eve to partner with the lie to deceive Adam. So now, I look at my own life and where Satan was as cunning as the serpent to convince me to partake from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. I thought about what God said would happen if Adam ate from that tree…”for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:17 (KJV)). Clearly, God was not talking of a physical death but death nonetheless. I realized every day I have a decision to make in what I will partner with. Am I going to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil or am I going to eat from the tree of life? God used a memory with a former co-worker to remind me He is intentional. Back story, God opened a door to a position I had no prior experience and Pamela was one of the employees that helped me learn the job and think beyond checking the box. I tend to ask questions when I am learning something new. I like to examine the task from different angles to determine the best way forward, weighing different outcomes. Pamela was patient and answered them all…even if it sounded like the same question, it was, because I was building a solid foundation to do the job well. I called Pamela and we reminisced about our time together…even that disagreement and we laughed. I love how God keeps us connected and how change is not an end but His will. I shared with her that God put her on my mind and how she always said to my “see you tomorrow,” “God willing”. She said most people think it means if something bad does not happen, I’ll see you tomorrow. It means tomorrow is not promised to go the way we want or plan but if it is God’s will, we will see each other again. It reminds me of this scripture:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)).
