Today we celebrated and we mourned. Allan is HOME!! With his husband Matthew. With his family and friends and church. With his pups. Thanks be to God and Make The Road and Alex and prayers and advocacy.

And he was incarcerated for 150 days. Kidnapped while doing the right thing. At a legal hearing for a green card. He was kidnapped. Moved around. Shackled. Treated like a criminal. Rather an animal. Because ICE could and did. He is strong. But he will never get those days back. He was treated inhumanely to intimidate the next person. I mourn that he came to a dream that turned into a nightmare. I mourn that there are thousands of people captured in cages. I mourn a nation of immigrants torturing immigrants in the name of the immigrant Jesus.

Today we celebrate. Tomorrow we fight with love.

It's EARTH DAY. It's a good day to think about gardens, even if it's pretty cold around here - maybe especially because it's pretty cold around here. At Medomak Exchange we're thinking about the Community Garden we're planning in the space between the driveways at the Medomak House. We have begun the clearing work which will continue over the next couple of weeks. If you would like to volunteer with the intended Common Garden or if you would like a small plot to plant for yourself/family, send an email to [email protected] and we'll give you more details.

One of my favorite Psalms is the 139th. The declaration from David that he is fully known and loved by the Holy One is a powerful reminder for all of us. God has made each of us wonderfully and awesomely in Their image. God delights in us. No matter our race, gender, economic status,  or sexuality— we are amazing to the God of the universe.

Too bad some people in power can’t look around and see the beauty of Trans and Q***r folks. Colorado understood this beauty and banned conversion therapy for Q***r youth. But SCOTUS, using a free speech argument, overturned the ban 8-1. Justice Jackson is the only dissenting justice.  

We’re in a fight, loves, a contest of values. Love and freedom for all on one side; folks being oppressed because they are NOT in the majority on the other.

On this Trans Day of Visibility, in Holy Week with my clergy hat on, I’m thinking about Jesus’ stand for the outsiders. For anyone  society rejects, Jesus is on “Team Love Your Neighbor.”

We should be, too.
