Tsechen Kunchab Ling is happy to announce the re-opening of the temple grounds and gardens, to small family groups. Visitors are welcome for outdoor activities such as khora, prostrations, hanging prayer flags, meditation under the trees, and requesting prayers and candles. Due to virus precautions, we regret that the buildings are not yet open, and request visitors to wear a mask.

Dear Dharma Brothers and Sisters,

During this auspicious beginning of the Lunar New Year and the twenty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of Tsechen Kunchab Ling, we are delighted to announce that from May 16-24, His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trichen will be in residence at the temple to bestow the terma treasure initiations of the great mahasiddha Apang Terton. He will be joined by His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin, who will bestow additional teachings, transmissions, and practice instructions as part of the program.
During His Holiness’ immediately previous life as the great mahasiddha Apang Terton (1895-1945), he was blessed and instructed by many deities, and discovered many important terma treasure teachings. Many of these are part of this very special program. It will be a truly great blessing to receive them directly from him.

We hope that you will be able to arrange your schedule to attend the temple's Grand Silver Jubilee Celebration on May 16th, followed the next day by these profound initiations and teachings from His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trichen and His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin.

Turkey Rescue Dedicated to the Long Life of all Holy Teachers

In the United States, tens of millions of turkeys die every Thanksgiving to become food for holiday tables. Help us purchase live turkeys from a New YorK City meat market just before Thanksgiving and bring them to a sanctuary farm near the temple, together with bags of grain to feed them. At the farm, the turkeys will live out their lives in a green pasture with a big barn, surrounded by other rescued chickens, ducks, goats, and other freed animals. The meat market charges $30 each for the live turkeys, Supplementary grain to feed your turkey costs about $2 per week. Help the farm support your turkey by offering grain so that it can enjoy a long and healthy life. It was a very joyful and blessed time, and all of the disciples fortunate to attend were inspired and motivated in their practice by the blessings and Rinpoche's advice on how to practice.

His Holiness the 43rd Sakya Trizin has kindly consented to our repeated request to bestow the Lords of the Three Families (Rigsum Gonpo) major empowerment, as well as a very ancient collection of initiations from Bari Lotsawa, one of the Sakyapa's earliest great masters. The collection is known as the Drupthap Gyatsa, or Collection of Bari Initiations. This amazing series is rarely given, even in India and Nepal. The program will be held November 1 - 9, beginning on the anniversary of Bari Lotsawa's passing into parinirvana.

Tsechen Kunchab Ling hosted a joyful early celebration of His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trichen Rinpoche's 81st birthday on August 31st, 2025, a beautiful late summer afternoon during Labor Day weekend. The event was hosted by Khenpo Kalsang Gyaltsen, Abbot of Tsechen Kunchab Ling, and attended by respected Senior Khenpos as well as officeholders and members of Vikramashila Foundation, Sakya Tsechen Association, Puruwalla Association, the Upper and Lower Mustang Associations, and other groups. The morning program included prayers for His Holiness' long life, as well as a reading of his amazing biography and rescuing animals. After a delicious lunch, the program included making tsatsas (sculpted votive offerings of clay), and enjoying birthday cake and ice cream, games, and circle dancing. By this merit may our precious guru's holy life be long and his teachings flourish throughout the world!

His Holiness Ratna Vajra Rinpoche was welcomed to Tsechen Kunchab Ling, Seat of the Sakya Dolma Phodrang in the Americas on Tuesday, May 27. He presided over Sakya Pandita: A Symposium on His Life and Works, co-sponsored with Wisdom Publications, which featured video and live presentations by His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche, His Holiness Ratna Vajra Rinpoche, and translators of six books by and about the great Sakya Pandita. A new book, Sakya Pandita: Three Biographies was also released during the event.
