All At a meeting held at the home of Elisha Watson, Jr.

on the evening of February 28, 1839, a resolution was passed unanimously by a group of interested persons "to establish an Episcopal Church in the Village of Wakefield" to be called the Church of the Ascension. That first church was a wooden frame building standing about one half mile from the corner on which the church now stands and was consecrated on Ascension Day, June 3, 1840. The building wa

s destroyed in 1935. The present church was built on the Main Street - Kenyon Ave. site and consecrated in June 1883. With the exception of the bell tower and the enclosed entrance and ramp, the exterior has remained the same for more than 125 years.

Christmas is a time that awakens charity and calls us to reflect on the situation of so many men, women and children of our time – migrants, refugees and displaced persons – who are marching on to escape wars and misery caused by social injustice and climate change.

Just like many migrants and refugees in our world today, the Holy Family experienced “the anguish of persecution” when fleeing to Egypt. Little Jesus reminds us that half of today’s refugees in the world are children, blameless victims of human injustice. —Pope Francis
