All At a meeting held at the home of Elisha Watson, Jr.

on the evening of February 28, 1839, a resolution was passed unanimously by a group of interested persons "to establish an Episcopal Church in the Village of Wakefield" to be called the Church of the Ascension. That first church was a wooden frame building standing about one half mile from the corner on which the church now stands and was consecrated on Ascension Day, June 3, 1840. The building wa

s destroyed in 1935. The present church was built on the Main Street - Kenyon Ave. site and consecrated in June 1883. With the exception of the bell tower and the enclosed entrance and ramp, the exterior has remained the same for more than 125 years.
