Pastor Debbie is hoping for a nice, quiet week this week. Sunday is an ordinary Sunday. The scripture is from Genesis 22 (1-14). It is the story of Abraham's faith and obedience. God tells Abraham to take Isaac to a certain place and make him a burnt sacrifice. Abraham takes everything he will need and goes to the place God shows him. At the last moment, God says don't hurt the boy and provides a Ram for the sacrifice. What are we willing to do if God tells us to do it?

Tomorrow is Father's Day! Remember we will have sweets and treats after worship. If you are still trying to decide what to bring, here are some ideas.

Today we said goodbye to a good man, Dale Carls. Dale will be missed by his biological family, his church family, and all those who loved him. He is home now where I expect he heard "Well done good and faithful servant!"

With great sadness, we report that Dale Carls passed away on Saturday evening. There will be a graveside service this Friday, June 19, at 11:30 at the Shawnee Center Cemetery. https://www.penwellgabeltopeka.com/obituaries/william-carls

Almighty God, our creator and redeemer, you are our strength and our hope. You have given us your servant Dale to know and to love in our pilgrimage on earth. Uphold us now as we entrust him to your boundless love and eternal care. Assure us that not even death can separate us from your love in Christ Jesus. Comfort us in our grief, that we may know your sure consolation and live in confident hope of the resurrection; through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

When Jesus sent the disciples out, he told them to share his peace with those they stayed with. During worship we have a time for passing the peace of Christ. Just what does that mean? Sunday we will explore that question.

This week is an ordinary Sunday. It is both ordinary in that we use ordinal numbers - first, second, etc. - to label it, and that we have nothing special going on in worship or after worship. Of course, Sunday is always special because we gather to worship God as a community. After worship, Session is meeting. Our gospel reading is Jesus sending the disciples out to spread the word two by two.
