What do we choose to remember—and why does remembering matter?

This Sunday, September 6, worship at Wakarusa Presbyterian Church will be led by Elder Anne Spry. In the sermon, “Days of Remembrance,” we’ll travel back to the first Passover and consider God’s unusual instructions to the Israelites: eat the meal with your sandals on and your staff in your hand. Be ready.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11, we’ll consider the defining events we remember as individuals, as a nation, and as people of faith—and how remembering God’s faithfulness prepares us for whatever comes next.

Join us for worship as we remember together. Oh, and one more thing. We'll have donuts and beverages after worship, as we do every first Sunday of the month.

About 6 weeks now to the ham and bean feed - October 17. We usually have lots of homemade desserts - pies, cakes, cookies, and maybe some other items. Even if you don't eat dessert, there will be plenty of food - ham and beans or beef vegetable soup, cornbread, and a variety of salads. Haven't heard this year's selection yet but we often have cole slaw, macaroni salad, jello salads, and carrot and celery sticks with ranch dressing. Last year there was also a wonderful broccoli salad. Come see what our cooks have this year!

Don't forget, this is the fifth Sunday in August so we are having a pot luck. Our theme is healthy foods. Bring something low salt, low sugar. Or just bring something else. Hope to see you there following worship.

This week we will celebrate the sacrament of communion. Well, that's the plan. Pastor Debbie is going to try to join us in person and preside at the table. Normally we would have communion on September 6 but Pastor Debbie's surgery is September 4. So come a week early and join us! Anne is planning a special service of wholeness and healing. After worship we will have a potluck. Our theme is healthy foods - we are looking for some low salt, low sugar items. Of course, desserts are welcome!
