'08 - Ryan Chong

What kept Ryan and his wife Sadie at Inspire wasn't anything flashy. It was the people. A friend invited them in, they got plugged into a group right away, and that community became the reason they stayed.

Years later, a message to business owners stuck with Ryan in a way he still talks about. Hearing that reminded Ryan of something simple: God is faithful even when the circumstances don't make sense. It gave him the courage to make a hard decision in his own life, trusting that the same God who provided for this church would provide for his family too.

That trust has been tested and proven again and again — Ryan's wife Sadie stays home with their kids, so every step of faith Ryan takes, he takes for both of them. And every time, he says, God has come through.

It's that same spirit — showing up, trusting God, and leaning on each other — that shows up all over this church family. One of Ryan's favorite memories is a small example: he offered to cook a couple of turkeys for Pastor Randy's Thanksgiving giveaway one year. It turned into 80 turkeys, cooked in an imu, with the whole church turning out to help — feeding well over a thousand plates that Thanksgiving. Not because one person did something impressive, but because a whole community said yes together.

ʻ07 - David and Judy Fukuzawa

They have been part of this church since 2007 — back when it was still called Hope Chapel West Oahu, and their pastor was a voice they'd first heard on the radio.

David and Judy were searching for a church home when Judy heard Pastor Mike on the radio and told David — this is the one we should check out. From their very first visit, what stood out was how welcoming it felt — the people remembered their names within just a few weeks. Years later, when the church was building its own building, David and Judy were part of the crew who showed up to help construct it by hand — David even wrote scriptures inside the walls, a small, permanent blessing over the space before it was ever finished.

This year marks 23 years of marriage for David and Judy — and nearly two decades of calling Inspire home. They're quick to say the growth they've seen isn't just in buildings or numbers, but in the steady stream of pastors, staff, and connect group leaders who've poured wisdom into their lives along the way — some who are still here, and many who've since moved on to other places but remain lifelong friends.

‘06 — Christine and Jaime Orozco

“The hope we clung to.”
When Christine and Jaime Orozco first walked through the doors of Inspire Church in 2006, life looked very different.
Their marriage was struggling. Jaime describes his life as chaotic and lost, with drinking contributing to a downward spiral. Christine knew they needed guidance. So when someone invited them to church, their response was simple:
“Why not? It can only get better.”

And they came.

Then they heard Pastor Mike share his testimony—and began to believe that because of God, there could be light after a dark season.

Through Celebrate Recovery, they began walking through healing. Through Connect Groups, they found more than community—they found family, accountability, mentorship, and people who would build their faith.
And somewhere along the journey, surrender became service.
Jaime remembers encountering the Holy Spirit and coming before God with empty hands:

“God, use my hands to glorify You… to do Your work and Your ministry.”
Twenty years later, they’re still here. 🙌
But now, the couple who once needed someone to guide and mentor them is actively mentoring others.

That’s what discipleship looks like.
Someone invited them.
Someone shared their testimony.
Someone walked with them.
Someone held them accountable.
Someone discipled them.
And now, they’re doing the same for someone else.

Christine and Jaime’s story is a reminder that you never know what God can do with one invitation.

'05 - Mike and Brenda

There was a season where they were going down a path they didn't have a map for. No goals, no destination, just two people drifting.

What turned it around wasn't one big moment — it was the steady stuff. Messages from Pastor Mike and Pastor Lisa, and connect group friends who kept encouraging them to never give up, to keep praying, to put God first. Brenda says she's now walking in the blessing she prayed for all along — getting to see the fruit of prayers she never thought would come to fruition, watching Mike and her serve faithfully side by side.

They've grown in ways they never imagined — praying together, building community, having people around them who support them instead of leaving them to figure it out alone. Now they serve together in Kids Ministry , and for Mike, it's become about legacy — watching kids grow through the ministry and through the example of the people around them, and finding real joy in it.

Her word for any couple that's struggling right now: never give up. Plug yourself in. There's nothing like a community at church that will bring you in, support you, and give you a reason to be here.

‘04 – Anne Kim

When Anne Kim first came to Inspire Church in 2004, she was carrying the weight of a season she wasn’t proud of.

After falling into sin, Anne lost friendships and began struggling with feeling unworthy before God. Even though she knew He had forgiven her, the thought of walking into a church where people knew her—and knew her story—felt overwhelming.

But she came anyway.

And instead of condemnation, she found grace. ❤️

Anne joined a Connect Group and began building relationships with other women and families. Over the years, they didn’t just attend church together—they did life together, raised their children together, and became family.
That community became part of the reason Inspire began to feel like home.

Anne’s testimony reminds us that we need people who will walk beside us, extend the grace of Jesus to us, and remind us that our past does not disqualify us from belonging in the family of God.

And sometimes, it all begins with an invitation.

“Don’t be afraid to invite your friends…you never know what’s going to happen. It could be life-changing. That’s what happened to me.”
One invitation can reach a person.
One community can help make a disciple.
And one transformed life can impact generations.

‘03 – Troy Miyasato

“You’re here not by chance, but for purpose.”
Troy Miasato and his family first came to Inspire Church in 2003 because a friend simply said, “Why don’t you come check us out?”
Troy came—and never left.

From his very first Sunday, he remembers being welcomed by people who made him feel seen. Then, someone recognized something in him that he hadn’t necessarily recognized in himself:
“You look like a greeter.”

By his second week, Troy was serving. And he hasn’t stopped since.
Over the years, that simple opportunity to serve grew into leadership, eventually leading Troy to oversee greeters across multiple Inspire locations.
But his story didn’t stop with his own calling.

When his younger daughter was asked to serve in JRHI ministry, Troy chose to support her calling—and that decision eventually led him to Inspire Honolulu, where he has now spent more than a decade continuing to serve, grow, and be discipled.

More than 20 years later, Troy’s story is a reminder that there is joy and fulfillment in discovering your spiritual gifts and using them for God and that sometimes all it takes is someone recognizing it, even before you do.

Because at Inspire, we don’t want to simply ask, “Where are you?”

We want to keep asking, “Where is God calling you to be?”
Sometimes purpose begins with an invitation.
Sometimes leadership begins with handing out a bulletin.
And sometimes your yes creates room for the next generation to discover their yes too.
