We are part of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention (HPBC), and the Big Island Baptist Association (BIBA). We support the Cooperative Program of the SBC and we take seriously the mandate of the Great Commission of Matthew 28 with regard to direct, island, state, national and international missionary involvement. It is our sincere desire that this experience of worship will create a greater intimacy between you, the Heavenly Father, and with the church. Our supreme goal is to share the love of Jesus Christ with the entire world and to honor God through our lives.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month!
We are so grateful for the pastor God has placed over Waikoloa Baptist Church. Pastor Trent, we are thankful for your faithful leadership, your heart for people, and the many ways you serve our church. We love your goofy side and the joy and laughter you bring, but most of all, we love the way you continually point others to Jesus. Your love for Jesus shines bright through the way you live, lead, and care for others. You wear a lot of hats, carry a tremendous load, and give so much of yourself to serving others. We appreciate you not only during Pastor Appreciation Month, but all year long!

And to everyone who has a pastor…I encourage you to pray for him every single day. Your prayers are crucial to his ministry and matter more than you will ever know. Years ago, pastor and author Gardiner Spring wrote these words about the importance of a church praying for its pastor:
“Let the thought sink deep into the heart of every church, that their minister will be such a minister as their prayers make him. . . . How perilous is the condition of that minister . . . whose heart is not encouraged, whose hands are not strengthened, and who is not upheld by the prayers of his people… It is at a fearful expense that ministers are ever allowed to enter the pulpit without being preceded, accompanied, and followed by the earnest prayers of the churches. It is no marvel that the pulpit is so powerless, and ministers so often disheartened when there are so few to hold up their hands. . . . When the churches cease to pray for ministers, ministers will no longer be a blessing to the churches.”

This week we laced up our running shoes! If you live on the Big Island, you know those elite professional Ironman athletes are starting to arrive. Have you ever just sat and thought about the hundreds of hours of training a triathlete must endure to be in top form?? The dedication they must have to all 3 portions of the race? I’m sure there are moments during the race where their body begs them to quit, but their willpower pushes them to press on and finish the race at all cost. What kind of race do you think they would have if they had no dedicated training whatsoever or if they had no endurance for the length of the race? Our Christian walk is so similar to the training these athletes go through. We too have to stay dedicated to training our minds and hearts with the Word of God. Satan is going to throw everything he can our way, but we must endure and persevere with our Christian walk! Just as a triathlete keeps going, we must keep pressing on. Too many times we cave under the pressure and just give up. We stop living for God when our heart and mind tell us we can’t take anymore. Living the Christian church life is too hard…God is asking too much of me. The road is full of trials and roadblocks, pain and heartbreak but we must have the dedication to stay faithful to God and to press on toward the ultimate goal of hearing the words…”well done, My good and faithful servant”. Paul endured more in his walk than we will ever endure and yet he pressed on to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God had called him. Let us all lace up our running shoes and run with endurance the race that is set before us!
