Konko Mission of Wahiawa 金光教ワヒアワ教会

Konko Mission of Wahiawa 金光教ワヒアワ教会 Our church is open daily for spiritual counseling services, mindfulness meditation, personal prayer r Kami is energy. It has no gender. The Rev. Mr. and Mrs.

The deity we believe in is Tenchi Kane No Kami Sama, the Life Force that surrounds us and makes up all matter. If it's made up of atoms, it made up of Kami particles-- which is everything and everyone. To make it easier to understand, Kami is the Force in Star Wars. Konkokyo is a way of life much like yoga and martial arts. You can be of another religion and still practice Konko to strengthen your spiritual muscles. Let your Force be awakened. The Konko Mission of Wahiawa was founded as a branch Church of Konko Mission of Honolulu by the late Rev. Haruko Takahashi, a local Nisei Konko minister, on January 14, 1940 at the initial place located at 901 Kilani Avenue in Wahiawa. On the wake of the World War II in 1941, the Rev. Takahashi was held in custody by the authority along with other leaders in the Japanese community. Seven years later, on January 1, 1948, the Rev. Takahashi reopened the church at the present location at 207 Muliwai Avenue in Wahiawa and resumed her missionary work. After serving the community people in Wahiawa for 32 years, the Rev. Takahashi passed away on December 24, 1972 at the age of 62. Hiromichi Ishii, who worked at the Konko Missions in Hawaii, was temporarily assigned to take care of the church for three years while there were no residential minister. Thomas Tadashi Takahashi also took care of the vacant church for two years after the Rev. Ishii returned to Japan. On September 28, 1977, the Revs. Yasuhiro and Reiko Yano sent from Konko Church of Amagi in Fukuoka, took over the responsibility for the church. We have commemorated the 80th Anniversary Celebration of our church on March 15,2020 at the beginning of what would become the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, the Reverend Yasuhiro Yano is the head minister, assisted by three associate ministers: the Reverends Reiko Yano, David Yano and Edna Matsuoka. Reverend Rodney Yano assists at the Konko Church of San Francisco.

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Konko Mission of Wahiawa was truly honored and blessed to welcome Konko Sama, Rev. Hiromichi Konko, the 6th Spiritual Head of Konkokyo, and his family to our church. 🌺

This visit was especially meaningful to us because 26 years ago, in the year 2000 on August 17, his father, the 5th Konko Sama, and his wife also visited Konko Mission of Wahiawa.

For our church here in Wahiawa to have now welcomed two Spiritual Heads of Konkokyo is something we could have never imagined. When we think about the many years of faith, prayers, hardships, and goyo that have been offered here since our church was founded, it makes this moment even more special.

We are so grateful to all those who came before us and helped nurture the faith in Wahiawa, making it possible for us to experience a blessing like this today.

Mahalo nui loa, Konko Sama and family, for visiting our church and sharing this precious time with us. This is a day that Konko Mission of Wahiawa will treasure and remember for many years to come. 💙🌺
