“BEING GRATEFUL IN WORD AND DEED”

Psalms 118:1
O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.

This year as we observe our season of thanksgiving, let us be grateful not only in word but also in deed. Let our gratitude find expression in a resolve to live a life more unselfish and more consecrated to Jesus Christ. When we sit around our tables laden with sumptuous delicacies, let us not forget that half the world will go to bed hungry. As we enjoy the comforts of our cozy homes, let us not forget that great numbers in other parts of the world have no homes to go to.
When we step into our sleek automobiles, let us not forget that most of the people in the world cannot afford even a bicycle. In the Lord’s Prayer as recorded in the sixth chapter of Matthew, we read, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Scripture teaches that the good things of this life are the gifts of God, and that He is the donor of all our blessings. Thanksgiving? Yes. Let us get on our knees humbly and thank God for the blessings He has given us, both material and spiritual. They have come from His hands.....✝️

Prayer for the day;
You bring me such abundance, almighty God. As I think of Thanksgiving Day, may my heart be completely consecrated to Your Son, Jesus Christ, so that through Him my life will show my gratitude to You.....🙏🏻

MORE THAN A GOOD NAME: LEAVING A LEGACY THAT LASTS

Leaving a legacy involves far more than handing down a monetary inheritance or passing on a good family name. For those things will surely pass away and forever be forgotten.
A lasting legacy, one that continues for eternity, is set in stone. Written on our hearts, and the hearts of our loved ones, belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of the Living God and Savior of the world is the legacy that lasts.

As our children grow up, they may not see faith as something precious and invaluable. Especially if they have been raised in the church and surrounded by Christianity their whole lives, the value of a GODLY heritage may not be immediately apparent to them. However, as they grow up, the hope is that they will remember the “stones” of faith we have gathered for them, taught them, and lived as examples for them.
I think we can all ask ourselves the questions, “What are the foundations of my legacy? Are they superficial things of earth or everlasting things of heaven?”
Just as the Israelites were instructed to carry stones from the middle of the Jordan, and set them up as a memorial of God’s faithfulness, we too can gather “stones” that represent our legacy. Here are a few ideas:
* Write a family mission statement together. Ask questions like, “What do we want to be known for? How can we live our lives as a testimony of God’s faithfulness? What are the most important things to us? Frame your statement and hang it in your home. Also, make copies for each of your children to take with them as they grow up.
* Speak often about how God has worked in your own life. Consider having your personal testimony recorded for future generations.
* Keep a family Bible in your living room and encourage every family member to underline passages and write notes in the margins. Discuss often, how God is speaking to each of you through His Word.
One day, when your grandchildren or great-grandchildren come to you and ask, “What does faith mean to you?” Then, you can answer, without hesitation, and tell them about all the beautiful and miraculous things God has done, is doing, and will do.....

How Can Salvation be Free❓

Q: I think I’ve heard you say that salvation is a free gift, but how can that be? Doesn’t God expect us to try to get our lives in order before He’ll let us into heaven❓

A: The Bible is clear: God offers us our eternal salvation as a free gift—and this is a wonderful truth that I hope you’ll come to understand.
Let me explain it this way. Not too many months ago, we celebrated Christmas, and if you’re like most people you probably received a number of gifts. How much did you pay for them? I suspect you’re smiling at my question—because you know you didn’t pay anything for them, no matter how costly they were. Someone else paid for them, and they gave them to you freely and without charge.
The same is true with our salvation. We couldn’t pay for it; the cost is too high. In addition, God’s standard is nothing less than perfection, and no matter how good we try to be, we can never be good enough. But someone has already paid for it—and that “someone” is Jesus Christ! He did for us what we could never do for ourselves, by taking upon Himself the judgment that we deserve.
But what did you do with your Christmas gifts? Did you simply admire them and leave them under the tree? No, of course not. You reached out and received them, and that’s what we must do with Jesus. Don’t trust your own good works or doubt what He has done for you, but reach out and by faith receive Him into your life today. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

The prayers you pray influence God.

He remembers every single one of them. You may be thinking, “You don’t know me - My prayers seem so feeble and weak - God doesn’t seem to answer me.” Do not ever think that God hasn’t heard you or that your prayers do not matter. The enemy is trying very hard to discourage people in prayer in these days because he is afraid of prayer. He knows it’s strength and potential, and he is trying to keep this hidden from the Church.

Prayer takes time. We have to learn to wait and believe. One day you will see that your prayers have had a mighty effect in the spiritual realm. Do not give up or ever think it is not important to pray today. If ever there was a need for intercession for America, it is now. We are in a key (kairos) time in all of history. The Greek word “kairos” in the New Testament means the appointed or opportune time that God has set for something to occur. During a kairos time, we must respond in prayer and press through in intercession in order to see God’s plan fulfilled. We are in a time of urgency, and we must seize it in prayer. This is the appointed season for change and for intercession to increase.

We must not fear the future or believe the lies of the enemy, but we must stand strong in authoritative prayer.

Hear the Word:

God now speaks to us through His Word, rather than through the apostles and prophets, as He did before His will was completely revealed. Today, we have the complete written Word so we can know His will. Since He now speaks to us through His Word, we should hear Him by studying His Word and listening to what He has to say.

Mark 4:20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Mark 9:7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

Luke 8:21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Acts 18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

NOT JUST A MAN

Colossians 1:17
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Napoleon was right when he said, “I know men, and I tell you, Jesus is more than a man. Comparison is impossible between Him and any other human being who ever lived, because He was the Son of God.”
Emerson was right when he replied to those who asked him why he did not include Jesus among his Representative Men, “Jesus was not just a man.”
Arnold Toynbee a British historian
was right when he said, “As we stand and gaze with our eyes fixed upon the farther shore, a simple figure rises from the flood and straightway fills the whole horizon of history. There is the Savior.”.....✝️

Prayer for the day;
My Savior, I worship and revere Your name for You are the risen Christ, beloved Son of God.....🙏🏻

One of the Bible’s greatest truths is that 2,000 years ago God became a man—and that man was Jesus Christ. In other words, Jesus wasn’t only fully human, He was also fully God. The Bible puts it this way: “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” (Hebrews 1:3).
Can we fully understand this profound truth with our limited minds? No, not completely. We think God must be confined to one place (like we are)—but this isn’t true. We also think God must be limited in His power (like we are)—but again, this isn’t true. God is infinite and all-powerful—and when He came down from Heaven and became a man, His greatness was not diminished. The Bible says that Jesus Christ, “being in very nature God … made himself nothing … being made in human likeness” (Philippians 2:6-7).
The real question, however, is this: Why did Jesus Christ leave Heaven’s glory and come down to live among us? Why was He even willing to be unjustly condemned to death? The reason is simple, and yet also profound: to demonstrate God’s love for us. If God didn’t love us, Christ never would have come into the world or died the death of a common criminal. But God does love us—and the proof is Jesus Christ.

Don’t be lost in doubt any longer. Instead, by a simple act of faith invite Jesus Christ to come into your life today—and He will. Your life will never be the same.

USE YOUR MIND

Mark 12:30
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Christ touches every area of our lives. He touches our minds and we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. God invites people to use their minds, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 1:18). We are told in Scripture not to be like the horse or mule, “which have no understanding” (Psalm 32:9). Christ declared that we are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind. We are told to fear God, to love Christ, and to hate sin. Fear, love, and hate are emotions.
“There is nothing wrong with emotion” Christianity is falling in love with Christ. Has anyone ever fallen in love without emotion?”.....✝️

Prayer for the day;
May my love for You embrace my whole being, Lord Jesus. Teach me true love.....🙏🏻

Question:
How do you keep bad thoughts from taking over your mind? I'll be fine for a while, but then something will trigger my imagination and I'll start dwelling on things I know I shouldn't be thinking about. God must be very disappointed in me. How can I break this cycle?

Answer:
You’ve already taken the first step by admitting you have this problem — and not only admitting it but also realizing it’s wrong and wanting to do something about it.
Remember, God is just as concerned about our thoughts as He is about our actions, and He doesn’t want evil thoughts to occupy our minds. One reason God destroyed the world in Noah’s time was because “every inclination of the thoughts of his (man’s) heart was only evil all the time” (Genesis 6:5). Evil thoughts lead to evil deeds — and even when they don’t, they focus our hearts on evil rather than good.
How can you conquer bad thoughts, whatever form they take? Begin by turning to God and submitting your whole life — including your mind — to Jesus Christ. If you have never done so, confess your sins to Him today, and by faith ask Him to come into your heart.
Then fill your mind with God’s truth. In other words, don’t just empty your mind of evil thoughts, but fill it with good thoughts — in other words, with God’s truth as it is found in the Bible. Make the Bible part of your life every day, and memorize as much of it as you can. Then when evil thoughts come into your mind, immediately turn your attention to God’s promises and His love for you. The Bible says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11).

COMING TO SELF

Some have called it the greatest short story of all times. Others have referred to it as the pearl of parables. Whether or not we agree, it is not difficult to understand why the parable of the prodigal son (Lk. 15) has come to be one of the best known texts of the Bible. Its message and characters are easy to identify with. Its lessons are practical and timeless--like those we learn from the young prodigal, for instance.
From him we learn that a man must come to himself before he can come to God (v.17). This is the turning point in the story and in his life. From his pigpen perspective he can see the vanity of self indulgence and riotous living --- that man's life truly does not consist in the abundance of his possessions (Lk. 12:15) or the transient pleasures they afford. Like the apostle Paul, his concept of gain and loss has been radically changed (Phil. 3:7,8). Now, he despises what he once yearned for and yearns for what he once despised. That's the way it is when men come to themselves. Some would say the prodigal had lost all. Money gone, friends gone, good-times gone, humiliated and hungry out here with the pigs and so far from home! Yet, amazingly, because he comes to himself, he comes to the threshold of a greater inheritance--one that is incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away (I Pet. 1:4). What treasure to find in a pigpen!
But, in addition, the prodigal shows us that coming to self involves coming to an awareness of personal sin: "I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight.." (v.18,21). To acknowledge sinning "against heaven" implies Godly sorrow, the kind that "worketh- repentance unto salvation" (2 Cor. 7:10). All sin is against God and no sin is rectified without such realization and admission. It takes a truly humble spirit to say, "I've been wrong" or, "I have sinned!". Yet none come to God or return to God without it. Jesus speaks of such when He says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit.. " (Matt. 5:3). They seek no alibis, no excuses, no scapegoats. Like David they confess, "Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done that which is evil in thy sight" (Ps.51:4). Such contriteness of spirit is fundamental to righteousness. As someone has well said, "Lowliness is the beginning of holiness".
Finally, as the prodigal comes to himself and sees his sin, he is also made aware of his need. Those like the self righteous Pharisee see themselves as whole and in no need of a physician. Others, like the prodigal and publican, see themselves as lost sinners, desperately needing mercy and forgiveness. Only as sinners see such a need do they resolve to do something about it. "I will arise and go to my Father..." (v.18). And thusly do erring sons come home to the Father and salvation.
Even now many sons, having left the Father, are blindly pursuing selfish pleasures in the land of do-as-you-please. Not that they have necessarily left their home town --- or even the church pew, but their heart is far from the Lord (Matt.15:8). Yet He waits for such sons to come to themselves and come home.....✝️

DANCING;

Dancing is not specifically condemned anywhere in the Bible. In fact, if you do a search, you will find old testament passages that condone it. However, there are a number of scriptural principles that would indicate that many types of popular dancing are sinful either because of the dance itself or because of the setting in which it is done.

Matthew 5:28 But I [Jesus] say unto you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
Romans 13:13-14 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Galatians 5:16,19-21 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.... Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.
1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
1 Peter 4:1-5 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles --- when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you. They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
1 John 2:15-16 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world -- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life -- is not of the Father but is of the world.

Lamentations 3:22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
————————————————————-

Sometimes the world seems hopeless.
Maybe it’s because of the violence that creates a domino effect as one outburst after another erupts in this city or that. Maybe it’s the hardship we experience through illness, family conflict and money issues. Maybe it’s the messy political climate that leaves candidates and constituents alike entangled in disagreement.
Where’s all the good news?
“My hope does not rest in the affairs of this world,”...It rests in Christ who is coming again.”
As followers of Jesus Christ, we know there’s hope beyond this life—a glorious hope of something more, something greater than anything we can imagine, with no more sorrow or pain.
And until then?

With so much suffering and discord dominating the headlines—and even our personal lives—we may miss all the good things happening around us. Yet every day, there are wonderful opportunities to see God at work in the world and to express our gratefulness for His protection and provision. The book of Lamentations says His mercies “are new every morning.”
Over the summer, people shared on Facebook about things that have given them hope despite a global whirlwind of bad news.
One young lady wrote about visiting her brother. They caught up on each other’s lives and shared a meal. “We had been estranged for quite some time,” she wrote, but after the visit, “all was forgotten, our sibling love for one another [is] stronger than ever now. He and I were both praying for reconciliation and the Lord heard our prayers and answered to the affirmative!”
A man wrote about his 21-year-old daughter with special needs who just started coloring on her own. “It has taken 21 years and God is doing something new in her,” he wrote.
Others wrote about inspiring things they’ve seen others do.
Rachel Ann saw a mechanic offer help to a couple with a broken down truck. Patti was thrilled to see three children accept Christ during vacation Bible school. And another woman was asked by her 7-year-old son not to disturb his Bible study.
“He truly inspired me to start a children’s ministry, and he gave me the hope that other children can have a desire for spiritual things as well,” she wrote.
