TOPIC: OVERCOMING ANXIETY AND WORRY

Bible Texts: Matthew 6:24–33; Philippians 4:6–7

Opening Thought

Worry is something everyone encounters, but Jesus teaches us that we do not have to live under its control. Anxiety focuses on what might happen, while faith focuses on who God is.

The goal is not simply to tell ourselves, “Don’t worry.” The goal is to learn how to replace worry with trust, prayer, and the Word of God.

WHY WORRY WHEN YOU CAN PRAY?

Main Scriptures: Matthew 6:24–34; Philippians 4:6–7

1. WORRY CHANGES NOTHING — PRAYER CHANGES THINGS

Jesus asks in Matthew 6:27:

“Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”

Worry uses our energy without giving us control over the outcome.

Prayer, however, puts the situation into the hands of the One who has control.

Question:
What have you been worrying about that you have not yet fully surrendered to God?
