For this concert we are excited to welcome Jon Janacek as Bass soloist in the Bach Magnificat. A graduate of Baylor University, Jon Janacek has appeared with opera companies, in concerts, and in festival programs across the US. His voice has been described by Classical Voice North America as “large and attractive” and possessing “an ardent lyric tenor with strength at high and low extremes”. He made his debut with Houston Grand Opera as Registrar in Madame Butterfly (2015, and 2024). He has appeared with HGO as Giuseppe in La traviata (2017, 2022), Tenor Solo/Tart Bully in Mazzoli’s Breaking the Waves (2025), and McDonnaugh/Second Scottish Soldier in Puts’ Silent Night in January. Other past roles include Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, Canio in Pagliacci, Rodolfo in La bohème, and Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos as a young artist with Kingwood Summer Opera (2012-2014); Jenik in concert for The Bartered Bride as a vocal fellow at Music Academy of the West in 2016; Bacchus with the Berlin Opera Academy in 2017; and excerpts of the title role in Lohengrin in 2018 and the role of Erik in The Flying Dutchman in 2019, both for the Wagner Institute of the Miami Music Festival. In 2020 Janacek participated in Vegas City Opera’s film, The Ring Vegas (a reduced version of Wagner’s Ring cycle), performing the four lead tenor roles. He returned to The Wagner Institute, Miami Music Festival, in June 2022 to sing Loge in Das Rheingold. For his performance, Southern Florida Classical Review stated "as the fire god Loge, his agile voice had fluidity with power to spare when it was needed, and his singing was a consistent joy to hear." He has been a participant of the American Wagner Project and a sponsored grant recipient from The Wagner Society of Washington, DC. He returned to Vegas City Opera in November of 2021 as Rodolfo for La Bohème and in March 2023 to sing Siegmund in Die Walküre. An experienced concert artist, Janacek has been a featured soloist in performances of several sacred oratorios and has appeared with orchestras and ensembles across Texas. He made his debut in 2024 in a concert performance of Die Walküre Act 1 as Siegmund for the SAS Performing Arts Program (New York) and debuted with The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston last Summer as Lord Chancellor (cover) for Iolanthe. Last fall, he appeared with Hopera HTX (Houston) as Tonio in a new production of Pagliacci. Janacek returns to Vox Seraphim this Spring after debuting as a featured soloist in Handel’s Messiah (2023).
