St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Waco looks forward to welcoming you to the 2026-27 Sacred Arts Series. The series begins on September 20 with a free organ concert by James O'Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey from 2000 to 2022. On October 24 we welcome leading chamber choir Ensemble Altera. Tickets $20 ($15 for students and children) can be purchased at https://ensemblealterawaco.eventbrite.com.

A local church musician is back home in Waco after performing on one of the most famous organs in the world. Eugene Lavery, head of music at Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church in Waco, was invited to play a solo organ concert at Westminster Abbey in London last week.

Do you know a child who loves to sing? The St. Alban's Chorister Program is open to children from ages 5 to end-of-school, regardless of religious affiliation. Rehearsals for 2026-27 start on August 12 so now is a great time to sign your child up!

The 2026-27 Sacred Arts Series will welcome leading chamber choir Ensemble Altera on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 PM. Tickets $20 ($15 for students and children) can be purchased at https://ensemblealterawaco.eventbrite.com.

Described by the BBC as “something extraordinary,” Ensemble Altera is guided by internationally celebrated countertenor Christopher Lowrey and has become known for its fearless programming, passionate performances, and energetic advocacy for the importance of ensemble singing. The ensemble’s most recently released recording, Feminine Voices at Christmas, was named the 2025 Christmas Choice by BBC Magazine, its previous album, Dazzling Light, was hailed a “treasurable recording” by Gramophone Magazine, and its debut disc, The Lamb’s Journey, won the German Record Critics’ Prize, which remarked that "no recent recording debut in this field has been as spectacular."

The 2026-27 Sacred Arts Series commences on Sunday, September 20 with an organ concert by James O’Donnell, Professor in the Practice of Organ at Yale University.

As Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey from 2000 to 2022, O'Donnell was responsible for the music at several royal and state functions, including the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in 2011, the service of thanksgiving for Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 2022 and the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, also in 2022.

Following the organ concert, O'Donnell will conduct the St. Alban’s Choir in a service of Choral Evensong. Admission to both the concert and Evensong is free and a reception will follow Evensong.

Combining the highest standards of musicianship and performance with leadership and teamwork, Choristers learn musical skills and theory through the curriculum of the Royal School of Church Music in America (RSCM).
