Have a Lighter Heart

I know that “being positive” can at times feel impossible. But, when you focus on the small activities of the day: fixing yourself breakfast, showering, or taking a walk; all can be positive places in the day, and areas to have a lighter of heart – the idea becomes easier to accept.

As you plan your daily activities, even the simplest one, remember it’s your to put a “negative” spin on it, or a more desirable “positive” spin. That brighter outlook, that positivity expands in a positive direction – leading more swiftly to increased joy and a more complete recovery from loss.

Quotation of the Day

Yesterday ended last night. Every day is a new beginning. Learn the skill of forgetting. And move on. ~ Norman Vincent Peale

Change –it’s the constant of our lives. With every stage of living, we lose people, and places that we love. We may not lose them to death, but saying ‘good-bye’ to those who are leaving us, or ‘farewell’ to those left behind as we journey forth – each is an event which is similar to death. In each, we die, just a little.

Each is worthy of remembrance, and each deserves to be released. We must let go, and move on; after all, there are many new people, places and animal companions just waiting for us to meet, and to love. New life emerges from that which dies. Think of a hillside after a forest fire. It usually springs beautiful flowers through the ashen laid hills of the burnt ash.

Are you ready to open the doors of your heart to embrace them?

Quotation of the Day

“At every point in the human journey we find that we have to let go in order to move forward; and letting go means dying a little. In the process we are being created anew, awakened afresh to the source of our being.”~ Kathleen R. Fischer

Now You Can See Clearly
I remember a day in my life over 25 years ago where I was weeping openly as I walked in the rain. I was living in Berkeley at the time, finishing my graduate studies.

Despite all that education, I was totally ill-equipped to weather the emotional storm of loss. Grief had sent me spiraling into despair, and all I could do was weep. My heart was broken and I grieved and longed for what was lost.

I now know I am not alone in this human experience and that suffering is part of our journey. It is from the depth of this sorrow I am able to find great joy in my life today.

I see sorrow and offer comfort for those who are in the midst of grieving. I assure them I can see clearly now and that this too shall pass.

Quotation of the Day

“Should his heart break and the grief pour out, it would flow over the whole earth, it seems, and yet, no one sees it.” ~ Anton Chekhov

There are good days, and there are those days you’re so glad are over. As you lay your head down on your pillow, you just sigh with relief! Believe you me, I know quite well – as all human beings do.

Many days we don’t like the circumstances we face, but it’s good to remember those circumstances simply do not determine who you are – but they powerfully reveal who you are.

Thomas Paine wrote, during the American Revolution, “These are the times that try men’s souls.”

The fact that he lived during the 18th century, and suffered trying times, goes a long way in illustrating the commonality of human experience: you are not the only person to have lost a loved one. No matter what the circumstances of their passing, others have experienced the same loss. There is comfort, for me, in knowing that.

Such comfortable knowing makes it easier for me to go on; every minute, every hour, every day is easier because of the shared experiences of humanity.
