Who are you surrounding yourself with? Who we surround ourselves with truly matters. The relationships/ friendships we keep will either help strengthen our walk with God or hinder it. The Bible emphasizes
this importance and even mentions the importance others have in our life . When we surround ourselves with wise, Godly people we can benefit from spiritual growth, endurance, positive character development, accountability, strength, encouragement , uplifting in both good and hard times, and much more. However, bad Company can corrupt good character and lead us away from God.
Proverbs 13:20 in the King James Version states: "He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.". This verse emphasizes that our friendships and the people we spend time with can significantly influence our character and decisions. It suggests that associating with wise individuals will lead to wisdom, while associating with fools can lead to destruction or harm.
1 Cor 15:33 "Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good morals.".
The Bible encourages choosing friends who encourage faith, make good decisions, and are a positive influence. Hezekiah's spiritual growth was influenced by being discipled by the prophet Isaiah. David surrounded himself with warriors to help him face challenges and overcome giants
When the battery in our car is running low. You can still usually get in the car, lights semi work, it may even try to start. Let's say this happens as you try to leave work. You know you can get it to start If you find someone to help jump off your car... help support a charge. You can't do it alone but here's where this ties in. With the right support, the right knowledge , the right person, your run down battery can be started and the help is successful. Where we were weak , they were strong. However, if you have someone help, who isn't nice, isn't knowledgeable of what should be done ...it can be dangerous for both of you and lead to disaster right? Such is our walk with God and the ones we have beside us
Psa. 1:1-2Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
2 cor 6: 14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Romans 12:15 tells us to “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn”. Encouragement is an important part of life, and scripture can provide the guidance we need in order to be successful encouragers and when we choose others that also follow this scripture, we can grow in our walk instead of being hindered and falling away.
Tonight we encourage you to read 1 Thess. Chapter 5 for even more encouragement. We pray these things help you and we pray for guidance for you, as you walk with Christ and choose the ones that walk beside you on this journey for Christ.
