Awakening to Truth
Our lives are affected by so many constructed “truths” it’s hard to just name a few: financial markets, private property, national borders, gender roles, and more. But what is spiritually true? How do we find it? And better yet, how do we live it? Experiencing the story “Old Turtle and the Broken Truth,” this multi-generational service will be a balm to the spirit. All who are in school this semester/quarter are invited to bring their backpacks or bags to the service for a special blessing.

Next Wednesday, August 19th, our friends at Gossip Grill and Mariam T are hosting Bingo Gone Bonkers, a special fundraiser benefiting TransFamily Support Services! 🏳️‍⚧️

Come out for a night of bingo, raffles, and community while giving back to the work we do alongside trans youth and their families. Your $20 ticket includes three bingo cards and a $10 donation to TFSS, with all raffle proceeds going towards benefiting our work. We need YOUR help! In exchange, you get to enjoy home-cooked foods to fuel you up, enjoy the fresh mountain air AND cool off by swimming in our pool. The hot tub will also be open.

Camp de Benneville Pines can use your help. Help us get the trim painted before winter!
We are looking for about 14 more volunteers to assist us with some very important tasks that we need to complete before winter. We especially want to get the trim on our NEW windows painted green while the weather is still warm.
Some other jobs we have include:
-organizing the games closet
-cleaning the crafts room
-erosion control
Projects start Friday about 1 pm, so come up early and bring a picnic lunch. Friday dinner will be our first meal served. The North County Center has been working as the Southern California Regional Lead under a three year grant funded by Mental Health California. The grant focusses on positive mental health outcomes for LGBTQIA+ community members and brings together community members, decision makers and staff to discuss what is needed to support people.

WE LIVE: Talk the Talk, LIVE the Walk is their Year 3 Annual Gathering, and our community has been invited! This is a free, open event for community members, advocates, service providers, allies, and anyone who cares about LGBTQ+ mental wellness in California.

Here's what you can expect:
- Powerful storytelling that amplifies authentic LGBTQ+ voices and lived experiences
- Dialogue with behavioral health leaders and decision-makers who are ready to listen

The Woodlands returns September 6! 🌳

This monthly online spiritual community is beginning a new season of connection, care, joy, and rest for trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit, gender-expansive, inters*x, gender-blessed, and gender non-conforming people—and those who love them.

And this year, The Woodlands is growing. We’re excited to introduce Sweetgums, a new dedicated space for the partners and spouses of trans people, alongside small community groups for trans youth and adults, parents, caregivers, and families.

Rooted in Unitarian Universalist values, The Woodlands offers a space where trans lives are not up for debate or explanation, but are honored as sacred, whole, and worthy of care.

Monthly gatherings resume September 6 at 5 p.m. Eastern / 2 p.m. Pacific.

All are welcome to join the UU Solidarity Initiative on Wednesday, August 26 at 8pm ET for Rituals of Resistance: A Training on Faithful Witness from Delaney Hall.

Gather online with some of the UU leaders who have been leading the faithful resistance at the Newark detention camp, Delaney Hall. Take home concrete tools and rituals for your community developed and used by Charlene Walker, Executive Director of Faith in New Jersey; Rev. Dr. Robin Tanner, minister at Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit in Summit, NJ; and Rev. Anya Sammler-Michael, minister at UU Congregation at Montclair.

We human beings are capable of multitudes. Jewish traditions teach that we are, all of us, born with the capacity for good and the capacity for evil, and that we don’t just come by the good naturally… it must be intentionally cultivated through our families, our communities, and educational spaces. Unitarian Universalism has traditionally been very positive about human nature, but with all we are collectively experiencing lately, some of us are losing hope in humanity’s, well, humanity. Let’s talk about how we can rediscover who we humans are really called to be.

“Certainty is often the costume fear wears when it wants to control the room.”

In his recent column, "Our Common Dharma," UU minister Wil Darcangelo of First Church Unitarian, Lancaster MA writes, in part, about the difference between spiritual teachings that invite us into deeper wisdom and those that ask us to surrender our questions.

Healthy faith does not demand certainty. It leaves room for curiosity, discernment, disagreement, and growth. It helps us become more fully ourselves—and more compassionate, courageous, and capable of meeting others with dignity.

The questions we carry are not obstacles to spiritual life. They can be part of the practice.
