So search your hearts every day, my brothers and sisters, and make sure that none of you has evil or unbelief hiding within you. For it will lead you astray, and make you unresponsive to the living God.
Hebrews 3:12 TPT
When we think of temptation we usually think of disobedience or sinful behavior.
But what about the temptation to doubt? What about the temptation of unbelief?
Doubting God's ability and His power and not believing His word are not to be taken lightly. (Titus 1:15; Ja. 1:6-8; Heb.3:19; Rev. 21:8)
Let's face it, a believer who doesn't believe is an unbeliever.
The way to handle a temptation is to remove yourself from the source. Example - if my form of entertainment is causing me to lust then I need to remove that from my sight.
So, how do we handle the temptations of doubt and unbelief?
- The same way.
By removing the object of temptation.
So, remove our brain?
We can't do that, but like the example above, we can remove the source of toxic thinking and then fill our minds with healthy thinking.
We can't unsee what we have seen but we can fill our eyes with something good.
Since doubt and unbelief enter through the mind, then the mind must be filled with God's truth.
Removing your brain is impossible and intentionally forgetting something is also beyond human ability.
So how do we overcome problematic thinking?
The way to defeat a wrong thought is with another thought -
Paul said, "I will pray with my spirit and also with my mind"
