Nimmo Community Garden

Nimmo Community Garden Growing Food for God's People- Planting Seeds of Love The garden is 100 x 60 feet and is located at Nimmo United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach.

We are a ministry of Nimmo United Methodist Church open to everyone who wants to grow and give fresh, healthy food to hungry people in Hampton Roads, Virginia. We started in 2009 at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church as a container gardening project with Potter's House. From summer through winter, our produce is picked and distributed by volunteers from the community and from faith-based organ

izations including First Presbyterian Church, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Nimmo United Methodist Church and Tidewater United Church of Christ. Last year, we donated over 1,600 pounds of freshly grown food to these organizations. We accomplished this labor of love through many warm-hearted volunteers giving of their time, talents, service and gifts. Come join us!

The handoff is official!. As I come to the end of my time as Garden Coordinator I am overwhelmed with feelings of love and gratitude. The garden is nothing without it's volunteers and we have the best in the business. Briana Henley is going to be a fantastic Garden Coordinator and we're so excited for the coming seasons. Enjoy this time of rest and renewal and may God bless each and every one of you.

With love,
Rebecca Lear

Another Planting Day in the books. We were blessed with incredible weather.

Sunshine, and a cooling breeze was just perfect for our increbdible volunteers. We got the entire garden planted, and prepped the sweet potato bed for our container planting later this spring.

Our greenhouse manager and planting day coordinator, Dianna Shipman and her band of great folks spent Friday evening banishing the shade inducing volunteer maple tree and the enormous shrubs that, while kind of nice to look at, were becoming impossible to contain. This work will free a sprinkler head that was covered and let the sunshine in !!!

There are so many people to thank, our OG volunteers who show up every time we need them, the folks from Elevance, brought in by Dianna, always put in a great days work with a smile on their faces and joy in their hearts. Maryland Hallman who makes sure our volunteers have good snacks and parting gifts to make everyone feel special. John and Lecettie Simpson, who keep our spirits high and our grapes and figs growing.....The list goes on and on.

The garden is a growing and evolving missiion of spreading God's love to our comunity throughg good, healthy food and fellowship. Please consider joining us. We would love to have you!!! Email [email protected] or head to our website at www.nimmogarden.com.
