Happy Solemnity of Corpus Christi! We were blessed to have Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at each Mass this weekend as well as the final First Communions of the school year. Congratulations to our three young ladies who were able to celebrate their First Communion at the 915 am Mass this morning!

This weekend, St. John the Apostle joins the universal Church in celebrating the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, meditating on the great gift of the Eucharist that Jesus has left us. It is the food that truly nourishes us for our journey toward heaven.

Many parishes today will offer a Corpus Christi procession, processing the Blessed Sacrament usually outside and concluding with Benediction. At St. John the Apostle, we will not have a procession but we will have Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at the conclusion of each weekend Mass. May our love for Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament continue to grow and deepen in each of our lives!

The parish church of Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy is now famous for what happened there on June 6, 1944: D-Day. Private John Steele of the 82nd Airborne parachuted into town, was injured by flak, and dangled from the pinnacle of the church.

He faked being dead for two whole hours, until the Germans took him prisoner. Later, he was able to escape and rejoin his unit.

Today, these events are commemorated by the "Parachute Memorial," which still dangles from the church steeple. It's a tribute to all the soldiers who fought to liberate Europe.

As our St. John the Apostle family, let's pray today for all soldiers who have died in the defense of basic freedoms.

Please see the link below for the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in preparation for the celebration of the Consecration of the United States of America to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 11.

This novena is given to us by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The Consecration to Jesus’ Heart is a truly historic act that will take place in Orlando, FL, during the USCCB's Spring Plenary Assembly and coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States. All are encouraged to pray this prayer for the nine days leading up to the consecration.

This weekend, June 6-7, is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). In observation of this central feast of the Catholic Church, incense will be used at the 5 pm Vigil Mass on Saturday evening and at the 11:00 am Mass on Sunday. In addition, Exposition, Adoration, and Benediction will take place after each weekend Mass.
In view of the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States of America, please add the well-being of the USA to your own intentions during the time of Adoration.

As was often the case, their story was fully told by their executioner, a man who later received baptism because he was so impressed by the courage of the men he killed. He sought out Pope Damasus and told him the story.

Think of the best father-son relationship you know of. Think of the love and even shared sense of identity that defines it. Then take that idea and multiply it by infinity. Whatever result you have, it still falls utterly and entirely short of the relationship between God the Father and God the Son. Because as Jesus says, He and the Father truly are "one"-one God, even while being distinct persons.

Why does this matter? Because today, on Trinity Sunday, we reflect not only on the nature of God, but also his Trinitarian action in human history. Especially the sending of the Son by the Father.

Take a moment today to ponder how utterly incredible this mystery is. Because Jesus is fully human, we sometimes lose sight of his divinity. But he is God indeed. And restating his saving mission in these terms can be helpful: God became man; God endured torture and humiliation on our behalf; God was crucified; and God died. Not in his essence, but in the human nature that truly belonged to the Son.

God truly suffered for us. And what's more, he didn't need to. At all. Because he needs us for nothing. But he loves us. Fiercely and fully. And on Trinity Sunday, we ponder this mystery anew and ask how here at St. John the Apostle we can carry that same mission of divine love into the world.
