One of our favorite parts of graduation Mass & Breakfast here at St John’s is the variety of colors of the graduation gowns. St. John’s has a special ability to mesh public, private, and homeschool families into one beloved parish family. Congratulations graduates! We’re so blessed that you call St. John’s home.

Yesterday, 28 of our students were confirmed at the Cathedral, and it was a beautiful and powerful Mass.

During his homily, Bishop Kemme did something our students won’t soon forget — he stepped down from the sanctuary, walked into the pews, and sat down right beside them. From there, he shared about his own Confirmation 55 years ago and how the Holy Spirit has guided and shaped his life ever since. It wasn’t distant or formal — it was personal. He spoke to them, not just about them.

He reminded our students that Confirmation is not just a ceremony or a milestone — it is the beginning of a lifelong openness to the Holy Spirit. The grace they received yesterday will continue to unfold in ways they cannot yet see.

We were so proud watching them stand before the Church — prepared, reverent, and confident. They responded loudly and clearly. They professed their faith with conviction. They showed up ready.

Please continue to pray for our newly confirmed, that they may be bold witnesses to Christ and always remain attentive to the voice of the Holy Spiri

St. Polycarp (c. 69–155 AD) was a revered 2nd-century Bishop of Smyrna, a disciple of St. John the Apostle, and one of the key Apostolic Fathers. Known for fighting early heresy and defending orthodox Christianity, he was martyred at age 86 by being burned and stabbed, famously declaring his loyalty to Christ.

So why have a Feast day for a Chair???

The Feast of the Chair of St. Peter (February 22) is celebrated to honor the spiritual authority, teaching office (cathedra), and leadership of St. Peter and his successors (the Popes) in uniting the Catholic Church. It emphasizes the divine mandate given to Peter by Christ to lead the Church.

Key reasons for this feast include:
- Symbol of Authority: The "chair" represents the teaching office and governing authority of the Pope as the Bishop of Rome and pastor of the universal Church.

- Unity of the Church: It signifies the unity of the Church founded on St. Peter, highlighting the uninterrupted, historical succession of the papacy.

- Recognition of the Papacy: The day provides an opportunity to pray for the Pope and acknowledge his role in maintaining the faith.

- Historical Significance: Dating back over 1,600 years, it commemorates the mission of Peter as the "rock" upon which Christ built His Church.

The celebration focuses on the office of the papacy rather than just the physical chair, acknowledging it as a "throne of truth"

Let's remember to pray for Pope Leo today and every day to lead the Church with truth and mercy.
