•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Darryl Lynn McNeal, 65, of Vinton, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 3, 2026. Although he had faced health challenges for many years, his sudden passing came unexpectedly to his family and those who knew him.

Born June 22, 1961, to Harvey T. and Lola Mae (Stammer) McNeal, Darryl spent much of his life in the Vinton area. He married Glenna (Phelps) McNeal, and their family grew to include five children: Greg, Brandon, Leiha, Nate, and Quentin.

For 23 years, Darryl worked alongside Duane Johnson in the auction business, where it his interest in livestock and the sale barn became a meaningful part of his life. He enjoyed helping raise and care for livestock for others and also raised livestock of his own over the years. He later went on to work at Theisen’s, where he finished his working career.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna; his children, Greg (Tammie), Brandon (Kari), Leiha (Jess), Nate, and Quentin (Rachel); his grandchildren, Kaden, Patience, Jayden, Maddy, Jaxson, Kelyn, Rainy, Atlanta, Nolyn, Roman, and Amelia; his brother, David (Karen) McNeal; and his sister, Mary Barkdoll (Steve Gordon), along with extended family members and friends.

Those who preceded him in death include his parents, Harvey and Lola McNeal; his half-siblings, Marge Lahue, Dean “Curly” McNeal, and Arlie “Mac” McNeal; his parents-in-law, Junior and Earlene Phelps; his brother-in-law, Gale Barkdoll; and his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Adam.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton, followed by a luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Darryl’s memory

We Call Ourselves A Church Family

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

Believers, therefore, are members of God’s household, or God’s family. The phrase “church family” captures the depth of life that people share when they attend the same church. Believers who go to the same church do not just sit in the same building on Sunday mornings; church members go through life together much like a family. They experience joys and sorrows together, have the same desire to live as Jesus lived, and through the ups and downs of it all, become a family.

We say “church family” because it conveys how important our relationships are with other believers, and that a congregation is supposed to provide support and connection similar to that of a family.

“So, then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God” Ephesians 2: 19

“So, then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God” Romans 12:10

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another “ John 13:14-15

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: OUR CHILDREN’S POLICY AT WESLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH VINTON

We wanted to make sure everyone is aware of our policy regarding children in church
*IF YOUR KIDS ARE LOUD, please still come to church.
*IF YOU’RE RUNNING LATE because getting everyone out the door was a battle, please still come to church.
*IF YOUR TODDLER WON’T SIT STILL, please still come to church.
*IF YOUR BABY NEEDS TO EAT, please still come to church.
*IF YOUR CHILD ASKS QUESTIONS at the least convenient time, please still come to church.
*IF SOMEONE CRIES, DROPS A TOY, OR NEEDS A SNACK, please still come to church.
*IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU SPENT THE ENTIRE SERVICE MANAGING YOUR CHILDREN, please still come to church.Because children do not learn how to be part of the Church by staying home until they can sit quietly. They learn by being here.
THEY LEARN BY:
*Hearing us sing the hymns.
*Hearing us pray the prayers.• Watching us worship.
*Experiencing that church is home because we make room for them. The wiggles, whispers, dropped crayons, and little voices are not interruptions.

They are evidence that the Church is alive!
