The Holy Spirit and Pentecost – Part 1 | Liz Dowdy | Evangel Church
On the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon believers, and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and power. They began to speak in tongues. But let’s go back 50 days to what happened on that Easter Sunday when Jesus was resurrected. Jesus made it clear that His death and resurrection were directly connected to our salvation and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus also said He was sending the Promise of the Father and believers would be endued, or clothed, with power. So, He was not talking about the Holy Spirit coming to dwell within believers at the point of salvation. He was referring to what happens after salvation. Believers can receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit with His gifts which bring power and a new life-changing dimension. We can be empowered to communicate the message of Jesus to those around us just as those on the day of Pentecost.
