How are you giving thanks today?

"Now Thank We All Our God", number 102 in The United Methodist Hymnal, invites us to consider what we have received from God, and how we might proclaim our gratitude. Surprisingly, the words for the hymn were written amidst struggle and want, as Martin Rinckart and his family were refugees during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648).

Today is Lay Speaker Sunday!

So you know what that means…you get a break from listening to me!

Today, we have the joy of stepping back and allowing our wonderful lay speakers to lead us in worship. From beginning to end, they will be bringing the whole service, sharing their gifts, their faith, and their love for God with our church family.

Vinita FUMC is truly blessed to have such faithful and gifted lay speakers who are willing to answer God’s call and serve His church. They remind us that ministry doesn’t belong to just one person—it belongs to all of us. God has given each of us gifts to share, and today we get to witness those gifts in action.

So come with open hearts and expectant spirits! Encourage our lay speakers, support them with your presence, and most of all, let’s worship together as the family of God.

We are blessed by you, we are grateful for you, and we can’t wait to see what God has in store for us today!

"Then Jesus told his disciples, 'If any wish to come after me, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it.'" - Matthew 16:24-25

Jesus counsels that a full life is one lived in holy connection--not one lived for selfish gain. May we direct our thoughts and actions towards reflecting God's priorities in the world today as we pray:
Lord of grace and goodness,

You call us to set ourselves aside
and to follow after you,
seeking your aspirations and hopes.

May we start this day with a sense
of connection and guidance.
May your thoughts be our thoughts.
May we seek to love as you love.
May our words and actions this day be a reflection of your presence.

Amen.

Gracious God,
you have called us to lead in your name.

Give us grace to love boldly,
strength to serve joyfully,
and faith to lead courageously.

When we grow weary, renew us.
When we grow afraid, steady us.
When we falter, lift us up.

May every act of leadership point back to you.
