The Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Center greets the Jewish new year with open hearts and open doors this month.

We do not sell tickets or charge for seats, although we welcome donations and sponsorships, which support our community, services, and programs throughout the year.

This Labor Day weekend, the Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Center returns to its year-round schedule of Shabbat services, following a summer of Shabbat by the Sea.

Join us Friday evening for Kabbalat Shabbat and Saturday morning for Shabbat services with Torah discussion and a Kiddush lunch.

As the days grow shorter, we look back fondly on another summer of Shabbat by the Sea.

It's one of our favorite traditions on the Vineyard, and this summer was no exception. Thank you to everyone who joined us on the beach, and to all who make this tradition possible year after year.

We can't wait to do it again next summer!

Earlier this month, the Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Center welcomed our Island community to celebrate the release of Rabbi Caryn Broitman's debut book, “The Torah Is an Open Book”.

We thank Rev. Cathlin Baker of the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury for joining Rabbi Broitman for a meaningful conversation about the ways our respective sacred, and sometimes problematic, texts can speak to the challenges we face today.

MVHC's Hebrew School begins this year on Wednesday, September 2, at 3:15 pm.

The Talmud tells us that "the Holy Spirit rests only on one who has a joyous heart." The experience of learning our tradition should be a joyous, lively, curious, engaging, and inspiring one. We provide a student-centered environment that makes our young learners feel welcome, safe, respected, and supported.

All students age 6 and up are welcome, including those from interfaith and multi-faith families.

Join us for the 2026 Frances and Elliot Lehman Lecture, featuring E.J. Dionne, Jr., as he presents "There's a New Moral Argument in American Politics: It's about Justice. (It's an old argument too.)"

Dionne currently serves as a senior fellow at Brookings and holds a position as Distinguished University Professor at Georgetown University. Before becoming a contributing columnist for the New York Times, he spent nearly three decades writing for the Washington Post.
