On June 14, 2008, my youngest Son gave me a book titled "Why A Son Needs A Dad” so for the last eighteen years I have taken this book and read it through from beginning to end . For eighteen years those words have made me cry and laugh and be extremely proud. This year I want to share a few of those words each day of this week with all fathers and sons.

I can’t help but to share a few words that our son, Eric Groves wrote inside the cover.



Dad, I hope that when you read this, you get the same reaction that I have. The feeling of honor and privilege that I get when I consider my role as a father… and the feeling of thankfulness that comes from having a great father.





A Son needs a Dad…

To teach him how to talk with girls.

To teach him to apologize for reckless words.

To pull him back when he is headed in the wrong direction.

To listen when others have grown tired of listening.

To teach him to always give a good day’s work.
