Come and see. He is risen! The angel didn’t roll the stone away to let Jesus out of the tomb. The stone was rolled away to let us into the tomb so we could see what God has done. So come and see.

Today…. Do you feel it? The disbelief of Pilate? The shame of Simon Peter in his denial? The helplessness of John as he watches? The sadness and exhaustion of the women at his feet as they wait? The grief of Mary as she loses her son? Do you feel the sadness of Christ as he hung on that hill? His aching body doing what he was called despite his fear? Or do you feel the indifference of the Roman soldiers doing their job? The satisfaction of those who cried crucify him?

No matter which feeling you sit with today, we have a blessing no one but Christ would know on that day- Sunday is coming. The grief will be over. Those watching with shame, sadness, heartbreak, indifference, or satisfaction would know he truly is the Messiah. And 2000+ years later, so do we.

Just last week we celebrated the beginning of spring and despite the cold snaps thrown our way, most of us here in Alabama saw the bright yellow pollen dusting all of our surroundings and we knew the flowers were blooming. Yesterday morning as I took my dog on his morning walk I noticed my neighbors flowers blooming full of color around their mailboxes. All of them I thought looked brighter and prettier than they were before they went into hibernation in the late fall. They rose up again to show us their beauty, another reminder spring is here and God’s creation blooms in full. Each year, these perennials will come back. They bloom as bright, if not brighter, as they were before no matter if we see a milder winter or a harsh freezing one. (We all remember those negative wind chills of Christmas 2022!)

This week marks Holy Week, a week we as Christians celebrate remembering Jesus’s walk to the cross, from being celebrated with cries of Hossana, his path laid with palm branches as he rode into Jerusalem, his Last Supper with his disciples, humbling himself as servant as he washed their feet, to the cross where cries of Hossana were replaced with violent cries to crucify him. We end a week where Friday is dark and Saturday is full of grief only to awaken on Sunday to find our Savior has risen! He not only hung on the cross to take in our sins, but he rose again to give us new life. The flowers I see on my morning walk remind me of the empty tomb and the new life we have been given. They remind me that no matter the season we’re in, no matter the cold or the dark or bright and warm, our Savior is with us, always working to encourage us to bloom.

He rose from the grave so that we too may rise and overcome the death that threatens to over take us in the harsh seasons of life. These flowers don’t need to be replanted or redone, they just need our love and care, water and sunshine. My friends, I want to remind each and every one of you that Christ planted himself in you in his resurrection and if the season you’re in feels dark and cold, you too can be resurrected. As we move into this Holy Week, my hope is each person remembers they’re just like these perennial flowers I see each year, watered with God’s grace with His grace shining down upon you, beautiful just as you were made.

Peace and love to all,

Pastor Kaite

As I'm sitting at my kitchen table working this afternoon, I look up to see a red cardinal fly into the backyard and land on a broken branch still attached to the tree. And I was reminded of what Job tells us, “But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

This broken branch the cardinal found rest on will eventually fall and go back into the earth and start a process that will provide nourishment for that same cardinal (or likely future cardinals). A process God carefully designed in the circle of life.

Whether we're broken or we've fallen, God isn't done with us either. We are mercifully in His hand and often provide rest and nourishment for others through our painful moments just as in our joyful ones. We were talking about God moments last night and this small cardinal flying provided me with one. God moments can be found in all of nature, surrounding us each moment of every day.-

So taking a page from another pastor friend of mine, I want to ask you, where have you seen God today?

Are you someone who displays joy? Or someone who hasn’t seen it lived out? Are you someone who knows the joys that come at Christmas? Or someone who’s been so overcome with hurt you ignore it, living in a fast paced moment of consumerism, never slowing down, passing the joy as you fly by? Are you someone that rejoices in the face of adversity or someone who lives in the circumstances laid upon you?

It would give us great joy to welcome you Sunday and learn how true joy lays upon a heart.
