Martin Luther at the Diet of Worms in 1521 said the following when he was opposing indulgences: "Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and I will not recant anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. May God help me. Amen."
This week, we are challenged by Pastor Flavio Quintanilla that a good follower of Jesus is one who obeys and follows the Scriptures, remaining devoted to His words. How can you do that this week, listening and obeying the Lord instead of drifting and following what either you want or what the world wants from us? Our attitude ought to be like Luther's, where our conscience is captive to the Word of God, and not the ways of the world.
If you are interested in visiting Harvard Avenue, we meet at 9:00 AM every Sunday morning. We hope to see you there!
