Harvard Avenue Evangelical Free Church

Harvard Avenue Evangelical Free Church We strive to be a Christ-centered, compassionate community. We are a community comprised of people from every age bracket, old to young. (Psalm 139:14).

We desire to be a multi-ethnic community where people in every season of life can experience the love and grace of Jesus Christ. OUR MAKEUP:
We are a community that is diverse racially with individuals from Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic-American, Filipino and Indian nationalities. We are a community that is equally represented by white-collar and blue-collar families. We are a community th

at has educational diversity with those with little or no education to people having advanced degrees. OUR WORSHIP:
Our worship lasts one hour and 15 minutes on average. The preaching is biblical and relevant for all ages and life situations. The music is contemporary with drums, guitars, bass, violin and cello. We incorporate hymns with a contemporary style. We strive to create an authentic environment by using testimonies, times of question and answer and reflection. People are welcome to come dressed however they wish with some coming in ties and many in jeans. We encourage people to feel comfortable as they worship. WHAT WE VALUE:
HOLISTIC EMPHASIS - We desire to love and care for the entire person: mentally, emotionally, physically, socially, morally and spiritually. As a church, we believe that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made." Therefore, it is important for the church to actively provide teaching and events where the entire person is valued. This involves not only providing biblical knowledge but also healthy emotional, moral and social development. We believe every aspect of the person is integrated and influential to the other areas. This holistic emphasis is carried over to our ministries as we strive to produce healthy and well-rounded disciples. CARE FOR SOCIETY/WORLD - We desire to show compassion and truth to the world. As a church, we believe every person has the unique opportunity to make a difference for Jesus Christ in their workplaces, neighborhoods and family environments. We encourage people to develop relationships with people of all walks of life, showing love and grace, rather than pulling away from the world. We intentionally teach compassion rather than judgment towards the world, desiring to be a light to our communities.

Martin Luther at the Diet of Worms in 1521 said the following when he was opposing indulgences: "Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and I will not recant anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. May God help me. Amen."

This week, we are challenged by Pastor Flavio Quintanilla that a good follower of Jesus is one who obeys and follows the Scriptures, remaining devoted to His words. How can you do that this week, listening and obeying the Lord instead of drifting and following what either you want or what the world wants from us? Our attitude ought to be like Luther's, where our conscience is captive to the Word of God, and not the ways of the world.

Good morning, and thank you for joining us this Sunday! Special thanks to Pastor Flavio, as he continued his sermon series out of Timothy. This week, as we look at the beginning of 2nd Timothy 3, we ask a difficult question: what sinful trait in this passage is most threatening your personal walk with Jesus, and how can we turn away from this sin and walk with Him?

Thank you for joining us yesterday, and special thanks to Pastor Flavio, who continued his series with 2nd Timothy 2:8-26. As Christians, we are called to preach and teach the gospel everywhere we go, with both our actions and our words. Our lives ought to reflect the hope that we have in Christ Jesus, no matter the circumstances, staying rooted in sound doctrine. How can you live in a way that reflects this truth, living at peace and helping people see the light of Christ this week?

If you are interested in visiting our church, we meet at 9:00 AM every Sunday morning. We hope to see you there!

Thank you for joining us this morning, and special thanks to Pastor Phil Bubar, who encouraged us in the word on how to work through our sufferings.
