Two Great Announcements

1. The Sunshine Gang traveled out to Empire Performing Arts Studio today and saw an amazing performance of Toy Story by an amazing group of kids.

2. If you are not aware, our church cat, Inky has a new friend hanging around. We are calling him "Dinky." If you see him hanging around, keep in mind he is a little skittish.

We are in need of bars of soap for the Lord’s Pantry.

We could use a donation of candies for the trunk and treat.

This Sunday is the 20th Sunday After Pentecost.

👉Sermon: Joshua 1:9 (RSV)
— Overcoming The Wilderness: Be strong, be courageous, for the Lord your God is with you.

The Setting: The Edge of the Jordan River

Israel is camped on the eastern plains of Moab, looking across the swollen Jordan River toward Jericho. The wilderness journey of 40 years is over. They are standing on the physical border between their past identity as wandering refugees and their future as a settled nation.

Moses has died in Moab but because Moses had laid his hands on Joshua, filled him with the spirit of wisdom (Deut. 34:9), and because the old rebellious generation has passed away, the people listen to Joshua and pledge their loyalty.

As if being called to step into his next season before fully mourning Moses, God is instructing Joshua to lead his people. Joshua is reminded repetitively to be strong and of good courage because God, the very author of the "promise", is with him just as he was with Moses.

With The Ark of the Covenant and The Book of the Law in tow, do they make it across the Jordan and into the promised land?

We invite you to join us this Thursday evening for a Community Prayer Walk through Vienna, Georgia. We’re calling on Christians throughout the community to come together and seek the Lord, to pray for the various facets of our community, and to shine the light of Jesus.

We will meet at the Vienna FBC parking lot to begin and end our walk together. For those unable to walk, you are certainly welcome to drive to the different planned stops.
