Day 15 - Santiago International Airport

We rose early and bid adios to Concepción. We boarded a bus for a six hour ride to Santiago. On the bus we napped, talked, did a sing a long and gazed at this beautiful country. Shortly before 6:00 we arrived at the airport and checked in.

It has been a fabulous trip. We have learned more about Jesus and the world that he loves, we have carried forth the Gospel, we have served together in the Lord’s work, and we have strengthened our fellowship with one another. We are all changed.

To our dear brothers and sisters in Chile we are leaving behind: may the Lord bless you and keep you, may he make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you, may the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

And … next year in Vienna.

All students and leaders present or accounted for, bags checked and loaded, passports and boarding passes in hand, customs and security cleared. Plane is at the gate and scheduled for an on time departure.

Day 14 - Concepción

We began the day with a celebratory assembly at the Escuela Almirante Jorge Montt Alvarez. The whole school attended in their dress uniforms. It started late because we were awaiting the mayor as chief guest. They thanked us for painting with some speeches, singing and dancing. We also thanked them for hosting us. It was fun to walk through the newly painted hallways and rooms.

The great thing about Christ Church Vienna student missions is that we do the work no one else wants to do, and we partner with local churches and Christian leaders to do it. No one was going to paint that school. The government did not have the money to do it. People in the community are too busy making ends meet to have more to give. That is where God’s people are supposed to show up. This July in Concepción, they did. And there is church here to continue to meet needs.

Parents, be proud of your children. They worked hard and long, committed to the result. Every one of them. And they took care of one another.

In the afternoon we did some shopping and more eating. We had a team dinner in the evening and joined our host church for worship. Now everyone is packing up for an early departure for Santiago.

Day 13 - Concepción

We got up early and headed to the school for one last push. And push we did. 35 newly skilled workers gave the last full measure in getting those hallways painted. By 2:00 every hallway in that school was bathed in multiple coats of bright pink paint. A little girl handed me a note where she thanked me for painting her school her favorite color, and she drew me an American flag in hot pink, along with a Chilean flag in red, white and blue. Mission accomplished.

After we wrapped at the school we had a late lunch at our retreat center and then free time. During free time no less than 23 leaders and students requested transportation for … more completos. They were really excited about it. So we obliged them.

In the evening we did devotions and small groups. We had dinner and then worship.

Tomorrow we return to the school for a celebratory assembly and the mayor is coming. Personally, I am looking forward to Rod’s speech.
