When you hear news reports, you know how important sources are to a story. Eyewitness (i.e., first-hand) testimony and reliable accounts are vital for believability. The advent of so-called "fake news" makes this issue all the more essential. In this Bible on Our Day, I begin by pointing out that the lives of commonly accepted historical figures may be based on unreliable sources, whereas the gospels of Jesus Christ are based upon eyewitness testimony and written within years, rather than centuries, of the events they record. I challenge people to consider the claims of Jesus; though they may not agree with them, it is unreasonable to argue against the evidence that Jesus did indeed say these things and do such mighty works.

This Bible on Our Day addresses the subject of Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality. I cite some current trends and compare and contrast them with biblical teaching on this sensitive matter. I realize that this is a difficult subject, but I am often troubled by how many times I hear about it on podcasts by conservative Christians, who argue in favor of traditional definitions of sexual behavior but fail to cite biblical texts on the matter. I aim to direct my audience to consider the Bible's teaching, free from presuppositional filters, and to recognize that Jesus Christ offers forgiveness and restoration to God for those who will turn from their sins (whatever they may be) and follow Him.

In this week's Bible on Our Day, I argue for the Bible's perpetuity. Its eternal nature is not only outlined in its inspired pages, but is also evident in its popularity and the breadth of its translations. With these realities plainly evident, I present the Scripture's essential themes which every reader of the sacred volume can see for themselves. These uniformly affirmed themes speak to us today and provide hope for all who trust the Scriptures' wonderful news. Those who already trust Christ will be encouraged by what they read. Those who may yet live in denial, I hope, will be challenged to consider these claims.

For this week's Bible on Our Day, I once again return to the topic of a Christian's relationship to his civil government and those who lead his nation, state, and community. I share from my personal experience of love for our country and urge followers of Christ to take up the baton of true patriotism and follow the precepts of Scripture and patterns set by godly examples of old. I am confident that you will be encouraged by these musings of one who, like you, loves his country.

The voting season is upon us, and Californians face many important issues. In this Bible on Our Day, I argue that no matter how one votes, theology triumphs. In other words, what we believe about God shows up in the way we vote. I hope these musings on Vote Your Theology will stimulate noble thinking among us and be worthwhile to pass on to others. American Christians should be informed citizens and vote with biblically informed consciences on November 3rd.

Lisa and I endured one of the common problems faced by homeowners: a leaky kitchen faucet. Now that the issue has been resolved, I am delighted to share several life lessons gleaned from this experience. It seems like letting something like this go without bearing some fruit for our troubles would not be acknowledging the Lord in all our ways (Prov 3:5-6). Last Monday, our nation celebrated our country's workers! According to His word, God also celebrates the man or woman who takes their work seriously and offers their labors as a sacrifice to the Lord. "Do your work from the heart as unto the Lord," we read (Col 3:23-24). From the homemaker to the Fortune 500 company CEO, all work has value. This perspective defines the so-called Protestant work ethic, and it is a wonderful thing to watch a skilled craftsman or strategic businessman do their work in the fear of God. In this Bible on Our Day, I commend the principle of work from the word of God. From Genesis 2 to Revelation 22, the Bible says that God would have us - each of us - work.

In this Bible on Our Day, I present the Christian gospel - the good news of Jesus Christ. By faith in Him, one can be saved from divine judgment and have eternal life. I write of several bases for judgment, including our deeds, words, and thoughts - all of which God judges in perfect righteousness. I conclude by suggesting a memory verse from the Bible that concisely presents these findings. For those who have so claimed Christ as their own, these teachings will ring true. For those who have not yet believed, I pray it will be challenging enough for them to seriously consider the claims of One who spoke so candidly about such eternally vital issues.

For some decades now, and certainly since the infamous January 6th run on the U.S. Capitol, a movement loosely known as "Christian Nationalism" has captured the attention of believers and political conservatives seeking to gain momentum by tapping into related social concerns. In this week's commentary, I pose the question, "Is Christian Nationalism Biblical?" I offer brief definitions of the movement from two opposing viewpoints and then answer the question with a host of biblical assertions. It is an important topic, and I hope to help readers and viewers alike develop biblically saturated filters through which to evaluate all sorts of truth claims.

In this Bible on Our Day, I revisit an important theme: the necessity of quieting our souls in the presence of God. Many religions and self-help gurus emphasize the value of taking time for personal reflection, away from the demands of our fast-paced American culture. However, it is the Christian faith that uniquely encourages troubled souls to call upon the God who listens, to focus their attention on His divinely inspired Word, and to trust in Him for strength while they wait. This sentiment is echoed in the testimony of a Christian author from a previous generation, who found solace in the quiet presence of the God who loved her.
