Over the next several weeks, I will be presenting lessons on parenting from the book of Proverbs. This vastly practical and divinely inspired volume contains the essential precepts and principles we should implement in our parenting practices. Father's Day is fast approaching, and I hope these messages will prove useful to you and meaningful to share with others. Please join me and invite your friends to learn with us the Precious Proverbs for Papas to Practice.

In this week's Bible on Our Day, I address a contemporary issue. Not only ought we to vote, but when we vote, we express our, hopefully, biblically informed theological convictions. I point out that what we used to view as merely political matters, so much of the American way of life is now up for a vote on theological terms. Now, more than ever, the candidates and issues for which we cast our ballots reflect what their constituents believe about God and His moral law. I encourage you to consider these musings and vote on June 2 with your ballot in one hand and your Bible in the other.

In this week's Bible on Our Day, I reflect on the many blessings of memorizing Scripture. This has been a recurring theme over the years, and I want to keep emphasizing it. The men of God throughout the Old Testament practiced memorizing Scripture. The sermons recorded in the Book of Acts contain numerous citations from the Old Testament, highlighting verses stored in the hearts of those Spirit-filled preachers. Similarly, the New Testament epistles are filled with God's promises, which their authors also memorized. Unfortunately, many Christians find themselves unprepared and unable to answer questions about their faith. However, this issue can be addressed through a consistent practice of Bible study and Scripture memorization.

Ephesians 4:32 is but one place in the NT where the followers of Jesus are called to “forgive...even as God in Christ forgave you.” One may also read how there is no room for complaining against one another, for “even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do” (Col 3:13). There is no option! Those who are forgiven must forgive. But why is it that so many of us find it so difficult to forgive and forget the sins of others against us? Jesus answered this important question while a guest at the home of a man who was forgiven little. In this Bible on Our Day, I challenge us to consider the implications of Jesus' saying, "But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little" (Luke 7:47).

For this coming Mother's Day weekend, I speak at length on the divine expectation to honor our mothers, while also teaching on the significant influence our mothers have upon our lives. In all the roles and responsibilities one might bear this side of eternity, the job of mothering is the most significant of all. I believe you will say "Amen!" and join me in honoring the one by whom God has given us life.

Recent studies in the Gospel of Mark have led me to consider Mary, the mother of our Lord, in a fresh and encouraging way. She exemplifies faith, one that struggles with reality as it really is, but finally comes to resolve that Jesus Christ is, in fact, all He claimed to be and the very One the angel declared she would bring into the world for the salvation of God's elect. I hope you, too, will be encouraged to follow her faith in Christ as God, Savior, and Lord. Our Catholic friends and relatives esteem Mary too highly and are guilty of gross idolatry that would surely embarrass the humble channel through whom God entered the world of humanity. Once you have considered my thoughts, please pass this on and pray that God's will might be done in their lives as it was in Mary's and her children.

In this week's Bible on Our Day, I present several choices regarding one's view of Jesus Christ. Sometimes referred to as The Trilemma, it is popular to either outright reject Jesus Christ as a lunatic, a liar, or, as Lord. Yet, it is even more common to passively write Him off as a good moral teacher. Whatever view one holds, we need to accept that Jesus is not going away. He is not ignorable. I cite C. S. Lewis, who, as an adolescent, abandoned his Christian faith, thinking that atheism held the cards. Yet, realizing he could no longer run from the compelling evidence, Lewis embraced the claims of Jesus Christ. I conclude by urging readers to assess their own relationship to the One who said, "Come to Me, and I will give you rest..." I hope this message will be a blessing to all.

Many years ago, our local paper asked me to write an article on the subject of tattoos and body modification. With the ever-increasing popularity of these practices in our community, it seemed appropriate to revisit this touchy topic. In "What God has to Say about Body Art and Modification," I address the matter from a biblically informed worldview. Expounding upon pertinent verses, I also offer encouragement to those who may have indulged in such things in the past but now regret those decisions. God speaks to all of this with clarity and compassion. I hope these musings will be of help to you and prove useful to share with others.

This Bible on Our Day follows recent messages on our Lord's Resurrection. In "Easter is Past - What Now?" I open with an attention grabber (sort of "crummy," if you know what I mean), but then lead us through an outline of Christ's five-fold commission. In five succinct commands and promises, Jesus presents the response that Christians live out in light of their Savior's victory over death and the grave. To these things we are committed and pray that our devotion may increase all the more.

Happy Easter! I hope your upcoming weekend is blessed with faith in the message of our risen Lord and Savior. In this week's Bible on Our Day, I outline five essential reasons why Jesus' resurrection from the dead is so vital to life now and hope beyond the grave. Yesterday, I was blessed to preach the claims of Christ at the graveside service of a dear Christian friend. The hope of being reunited with loved ones beyond death is a wonderful blessing for his wife of forty-two years and the families of their four sons. To share this faith with others is why we write, preach, teach, and explain the gospel to others. May the Lord be so pleased to use us during this significant time of year!
