In this Bible on Our Day, I present the Christian gospel - the good news of Jesus Christ. By faith in Him, one can be saved from divine judgment and have eternal life. I write of several bases for judgment, including our deeds, words, and thoughts - all of which God judges in perfect righteousness. I conclude by suggesting a memory verse from the Bible that concisely presents these findings. For those who have so claimed Christ as their own, these teachings will ring true. For those who have not yet believed, I pray it will be challenging enough for them to seriously consider the claims of One who spoke so candidly about such eternally vital issues.

For some decades now, and certainly since the infamous January 6th run on the U.S. Capitol, a movement loosely known as "Christian Nationalism" has captured the attention of believers and political conservatives seeking to gain momentum by tapping into related social concerns. In this week's commentary, I pose the question, "Is Christian Nationalism Biblical?" I offer brief definitions of the movement from two opposing viewpoints and then answer the question with a host of biblical assertions. It is an important topic, and I hope to help readers and viewers alike develop biblically saturated filters through which to evaluate all sorts of truth claims.

In this Bible on Our Day, I revisit an important theme: the necessity of quieting our souls in the presence of God. Many religions and self-help gurus emphasize the value of taking time for personal reflection, away from the demands of our fast-paced American culture. However, it is the Christian faith that uniquely encourages troubled souls to call upon the God who listens, to focus their attention on His divinely inspired Word, and to trust in Him for strength while they wait. This sentiment is echoed in the testimony of a Christian author from a previous generation, who found solace in the quiet presence of the God who loved her.

Dale Park was a special friend of mine. He and his wife, Laura, were part of our high desert community from 1997 until Dale's passing in 2018. They both worked at the beloved Roy Rogers/Dale Evans Museum, where Dale served as the look-alike for "Gabby Hayes."

Dale had a diverse background, but the members of our church remember him most for his poetry, in which he would carefully explain entire chapters of the Bible or eloquently discuss various theological themes. As a follow-up to the most recent Bible on Our Day, I would like to present Dale Park's "Reflection on the Resurrection." In this piece, he provides the assurance and comfort that belong to all who place their eternal souls in the care of the One who died and rose again for them.

I hope these musings bring comfort to your soul.

Throughout my years in pastoral ministry, I have had the honor of preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ at graveside, funeral, and memorial services. Those who are grieving are particularly sensitive to spiritual matters, so I approach these moments with gentleness and care. I aim to share the message of Jesus, directing people to the One who loves them, died for their sins, and rose again. Several months ago, I was by the grave of a dear Christian man, while his wife, children, and friends stood by. As I have witnessed so many times before, those dear ones who also trust in Christ, though sorrowful for their loss, do not hopelessly grieve. They will see their loved one again.

In this week's Bible on Our Day, I expound upon one of the classic texts for such occasions. You will be encouraged by this teaching and, I pray, will all the more cling to the One who said, "I am the resurrection and the life."

Throughout our sinful history, po*******hy has been the preoccupation of many men who could have run well but got off track, leaving the wreckage of broken lives behind. Though few men openly converse about it, their secret lives are given over to indulging fleshly desires. In this Bible on Our Day, I frankly address the issue and practical steps we can apply to get back on the right track and avoid the pain of regrettable choices. I write as a man to men and with compassion, directing us to the One who can help - Jesus Christ, who came to save and forgive.

This is my second installment on a topic that is very dear to my heart - the study of music. It is all around us, not only in church, but where we go in this culture of ours. It is practically inescapable; like a climate without wind, what would our lives be like without music? Stale! I hope you will be encouraged by these findings and join me in making the most of every opportunity to sing and make music unto the Lord.

In a few weeks, I will be returning to my other work as a music teacher at the Lewis Center. It has been a very satisfying experience passing on my love for music to boys and girls, ages 7-17. It has also occurred to me how much the study of music complements biblical studies. The Protestant reformer, Martin Luther, who himself championed the cause of congregational singing, wrote hymns, and played the lute and flute, had this to say about the study of music. With unparalleled zeal, he believed that next to theology, there is no art equal to music. He even asserted, "A schoolmaster must be able to sing, or I will not look at him; nor should one admit young men to the ministry unless they have practiced and studied music at school." With similar passion, I would like to submit the first of two Bible on Our Days on "Why the Study of Music Makes Sense."

In a few weeks, I will be returning to my other work as a music tea...
