In Remembrance of Beirut

in 1983, a terrorist bombing at the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, claimed the lives of 241 U.S. service members, including 220 Marines, serving as part of the Multinational Force in Lebanon.

On October 23, a su***de bomber drove a truck laden with explosives into the barracks where U.S. Marines were stationed on a peacekeeping mission. The attack devastated the building and became one of the deadliest days in Marine Corps History.

The Marines in Beirut were deployed to help restore peace and stability amid escalating violence in Lebanon. Despite the dangers they faced, they carried out their mission with courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to one another.

The Beirut bombing left a lasting mark on the and the nation. We remember the lost lives, honor the wounded and survivors, and recognize the families and loved ones who continue to carry the weight of that day. Their sacrifice remains woven into the legacy of every who has answered the call to serve.

Today, we pause to remember the 241 American service members who never made it home and honor their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty.

They came in peace. They will never be forgotten.

Memorial to Our Lady of the Rosary

Happy Feast Day to the parishes of The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory and Queen of the Holy Rosary in Hostyn
Saint Pius V established this feast in 1573. The purpose was to thank God for the victory of Christians over the Turks at Lepanto—a victory attributed to the praying of the rosary. Clement XI extended the feast to the universal Church in 1716.

The development of the rosary has a long history. First a practice developed of praying 150 Our Fathers in imitation of the 150 Psalms. Then there was a parallel practice of praying 150 Hail Marys. Soon a mystery of Jesus’ life was attached to each Hail Mary. Though Mary’s giving of the rosary to Saint Dominic is recognized as a legend, the development of this prayer form owes much to the followers of Saint Dominic. One of them, Alan de la Roche, was known as “the apostle of the rosary.” He founded the first Confraternity of the Rosary in the 15th century. In the 16th century, the rosary was developed to its present form—with the 15 mysteries: joyful, sorrowful and glorious. In 2002, Pope John Paul II added the five Mysteries of Light to this devotion.

On October 3, 1993, U.S. service members entered a battle in Mogadishu, Somalia, that would continue into the following day.

Today, we remember the warriors who fought, those who were wounded, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Their courage and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

May we honor and remember. 🇺🇸
