Let me introduce myself. I am Becky Zirpel the President of the Rose Hill Cemetery Association. For those from the older generation or Viborg residents my parents were Palmer and Marjorie Petersen of Viborg.
After retiring from a career with the USDA, my husband and I returned to the area and made our home in Brandon, South Dakota.
Following my retirement, I spent time visiting with my father, and together we noticed the condition of the neglected cemetery. I reached out to ask why things had declined, and Lisa, one of the board members, explained the challenges the association was facing. She also suggested that if I wanted to see change, I should become involved.
After giving it careful thought, I came to understand the importance of member ownership and community involvement. I offered to help because I believed improvements were needed, and ultimately I decided to run for President.
One of my highest priorities has been outreach and communication—keeping members and the community informed about the cemetery and its ongoing needs. I have also learned how essential member donations are to the survival and upkeep of the cemetery. The support and engagement from our members have proven invaluable.
I now fully understand the importance of continuing to keep our members informed and connected to their cemetery. Every donation, regardless of the amount, helps us maintain the cemetery—from mowing and routine upkeep to preserving it as a respectful and well-cared-for resting place for generations to come.
It has been an honor to serve as President of the Rose Hill Cemetery Association, and I remain committed to keeping everyone informed about the needs and future of our cemetery
