Making progress on the new ramp and porch remodel

01/09/2022

Due to the icy conditions today’s (01/09/22) Worship Service is cancelled!

06/19/2021

If a central theme of Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians up to this point is that God gave of Himself to save us, and therefore as ministers of God’s Gospel Paul, Silas, and Timothy gave of themselves, then his change into exhortation contains that same dynamic: don’t take from your brothers and sisters to fulfill yourselves, rather give in love. This foundation informs our sexual ethic, our community love, and our work ethic.

Tomorrow, 10 am, come hear all about it!

06/12/2021

“For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.” The ‘this’ Paul is telling the Thessalonian church about is suffering. For them this was persecution, and probably other affliction as well. But Paul encourages them by saying “For now we live, if you are standing fast in the Lord.” They are but a reflection of Jesus who “lives to intercede for us.” This is one of the ways Christians can stand firm in their faith in the face of persecution, or trial, or other afflictions.

More from 1 Thessalonians 3 tomorrow at 10 AM!

Paul shows that the way to share the gospel is to live the gospel. And even though we use our human means, God uses it so that when people truly accept the gospel it is “[accepted] not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.”
—1 Thessalonians 2:13

Come hear the passage expounded, tomorrow at 10 AM!

05/23/2021

E’er since by faith I saw the stream
Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die:
And shall be till I die,
And shall be till I die;
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die.

—William Cowper, “There Is a Fountain”

Also, the theme of Hosea; the theme of the whole Bible. Hear the conclusion of Hosea tomorrow, 10 am.

05/15/2021

Looking forward to being back with you all! We’ll finish up Hosea and then we’ll be back in the New Testament looking at Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians.

“O Death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your sting?” Hosea 13:14

“Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:54, 55

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57

“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”
—Luke 24:5-7

03/27/2021

Palm Sunday has a lot of significance for the Christian. We are shown our True King, the Greater David, being crowned. We are also shown through Psalm 118:24 (This is the day that the Lord has made) how this one day gives every day its lasting significance. Tomorrow, 10 AM!

03/20/2021

Tomorrow I’ll be quoting from The Fiddler on the Roof - trying not to sing it - when Tevye sings ‘If I Were a Rich Man.’ Within that song is such a great picture of how mankind idolizes riches and success. That’s the problem we find in Hosea 10. Success, prosperity, and riches whisper promises in which we invest way more than they can hold. The only answer to this idolatry is the one who gave up all riches, prosperity, and worldly ‘success’ to make us rich in Him. Don’t miss it! (I won’t sing the quote...)
Sunday, 10 AM
Also, SUNDAY SCHOOL! Following the worship service.

03/14/2021

Daylight Saving time is an apt metaphor for the world’s modus operandi: we’ll give you something “free” for now, but you’ll pay for it later. Well, today our “free” hour from the fall is due. If you want the opposite, one of the only truly free-to-you offers is the gospel of Jesus, that the cost of your sin was carried by Jesus, come to church this morning - 10 AM. Time changes are disappointing, I trust Jesus will not be.
