YOUR FAITH HAS TO BE GREATER THAN ANYTHING THE WORLD HAS TO OFFER‼️
Biblical, saving faith, has three aspects: BELIEF, TRUST, and COMMITMENT.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. KJV
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. KJV
1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. KJV
1. “BELIEF” is fact related. It is foundational to faith because God’s Word and the gospel are true. Jesus came in history. Christians don’t say “check your brains at the door” or “just believe despite the facts.” We invite investigation. Actually, the only reason to become a Christian is because it’s true. If it’s not, then we “are more to be pitied than anyone in the world” (1 Corinthians 1:19). But belief in the facts is just part of the story. Remember, “even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror” (James 2:19).
2. The next aspect of true faith is “TRUST” Trust goes beyond the facts and speaks to the reliability of the person. We know God exists (belief), but trusting him means we believe that his way is best and that he wants only the best for us. When we come to trust God, we can say with Job, “God might kill me, but I have no other hope. I am going to argue my case with him” (Job 13:15). And we celebrate the truth of Romans 8:28: “We know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
3. The third and final aspect of true faith is “COMMITMENT.” This means action. If I truly believe the facts and trust the person, then I will lean on him, fall into his arms, do what he says—live by faith. James forcefully highlights this aspect of faith: “What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? . . . So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless” (James 2:14, 17).
Belief, trust, commitment (action)—biblical faith—applies not just to salvation but also to living the Christians life. “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:6-7).
