NEXT WEEK, Wed July 1, 6pm - Prayer Initiative - The House of God

Every kingdom has an army. Every King has a people. This Wednesday, we’re praying for the House of God - the people Christ bought with His own blood. We’re seeking God’s wisdom and blessing - unity where there’s division. Strength where there’s weakness. Salvation where there’s unbelief. Purpose where there’s drift. The gates of Hell will not prevail against our King! I can’t wait to see you.

Prayer Initiative starts tomorrow.

“All we can do now is pray.”

These are the words spoken when the best wisdom has been expended and the patient is squarely in the hands of Almighty God, alone.

Across the world, humanity is sick and dying. In deep need of rescue and restoration.

Our hearts, homes, and homeland are under constant attack - from outside the walls, to inside our own fearful, bitter, self-seeking minds. No one is impervious to the deep waters of chaos already rising at our doorstep.

But we are not alone.

And we are not without help, in time of need.

This is our time of need.

Starting tomorrow evening, Wednesday June 3rd, 6pm - we will begin a prayer initiative at Veribest Baptist Church. This is a family event - parents and children of all ages.

Together, we will learn to pray, from Jesus himself.

Throughout the remainder of the summer, we will collectively grow a new and rich practice of seeking God’s work and will in our lives, with the very real hope to see God build His kingdom in our hearts, our homes, and our homeland.

All we can do now is pray.

See you tomorrow,
– Pastor David

The Eighth Day
______

HE IS RISEN! The stone is cast aside, the grave undone,
Why seek the living with the dead? The work of death is done,
The borrowed tomb stands open wide beneath the rising Son,
Faithful hearts awaken now to what the Lord has won.

The linens lie, the silence breaks, the angel’s question rings,
“Why look for life in death’s domain? He is not here, our risen King,”
No chain could hold, no seal contain, “O death, where is your sting?”
The grave itself was swallowed up beneath His conquering.

He led captivity captive, broke the bars of ancient night,
The keys of hell hang at His side, held in His sovereign might,
The radiance of the Father’s glory now unveiled in light,
Upholding all things by His word, enthroned in highest height.

So lift your voice, O dust and breath, let every tongue concede,
The Lamb once slain now stands alive, the risen, reigning Seed,
From shattered grave to highest throne, all powers bow and plead,
All glory, honor, and praise to Him, HE IS RISEN, INDEED!

Black Saturday
______

I am the end of breath and bone, the silence all men dread,
The conqueror of kings and slaves, no man can hold my stead,
I’ve swallowed thrones, chewed through crowns, on empires I have fed,
And now they bring this would-be King, to join the countless dead.

I watched Him bleed, I drank it in, the crowd, the cry, the fall,
The nails, the thirst, the final gasp, the beauty of it all,
The Son they loved, the Holy One, I crushed with glee and thrall,
Another name, another soul, just numbers on my wall.

They seal the stone, they set their guard, as if I need their might,
Their spears and seals amuse me still, I feast both day and night,
No man escapes my iron claim, no flesh withstands my right,
Every king will bow, every lord will fall, every day turns into night.

Yet something stirs within my depths, a tremor in my keep,
No fear have I of mortal men, no soul I fail to reap,
But this One’s death feels heavier, the darkness feels too deep,
What have I done, what is this Man, I cannot hold His sleep.

Good Friday
______

They crowned Him first with twisted thorns, the mockery of a King,
They struck His face, they robed His shame, iniquity would cling,
The Lamb of God stood silent still, while spiteful voices ring,
He bore the weight of wrath and wood, the curse of venom’s sting.

He took the beam upon His back, through streets that spat His name,
Each step His mercy carved in dust, each breath He bore our shame,
Beneath the burden of our sin, beneath the weight of blame,
The Lamb pressed on to Calvary’s hill, to end this wicked game.

They drove the iron through His flesh, the splintered cross would cry,
Two thieves each side, the crowds below, their malice spewing high,
“Behold your King!” the sign declared, for those who questioned why,
The Lamb of God, now lifted up, rejected, left to die.

Each breath a fight, each moment crushed, His flesh and blood diminished,
The spear then tore His sacred side, his lungs no more replenished,
The Lamb of God bore all the curse, the wrath of God extinguished,
The work is done, the debt is paid, at last, IT IS FINISHED.

Maundy Thursday

We watched the lambs brought in to die, their quiet bodies bound,
Their throats laid bare on temple stones, their blood poured to the ground,
In holy offering, sacrifice, their curdled cries were drowned,
We now recall deliverance, where crimson marks were found.

We took the bread, we raised the cup, as always had been done,
Fourteen hundred years we’ve looked to what I AM had won,
Our fathers marked their doorposts red, passed over for the son,
We feasted on the spotless life, yet missed the Promised One.

He knelt to wash our filthy feet, our arrogance then ceased,
He prayed that we be kept as one, in Him our great High Priest,
He sang the psalms, the Hallel rose, His blessing perfect yeast,
“Love one another, as I loved you…” the Greatest for the least.

We followed Him to Olivet, where sorrow pressed Him low,
He begged the cup might pass from Him, yet bowed to drink its woe,
The serpent struck with softened lips, a kiss of death for show,
The Lamb of God abandoned now, Friday soon will crow.
