Jesus tells us in Matthew 22:36-40, to live God with our everything is the greatest commandment and to Love our neighbor as our self is the second greatest Commandment. How do we do that? Meet them where they are.
•An intoxicated man was sitting next to a preacher on a train drinking from a bottle he would take out of his pocket. Each time the man would take a drink, he would offer the preacher a drink. Every time he made the offer, the preacher would smile and tell him politely, “No, thank you.” After the third time of the preacher saying, “No, thank you”, the intoxicated man said, “You must think I’m a terrible person.” The preacher looked at him startled and said, “Oh no! I think you’re a very generous man!”
The first thing to loving our neighbor is not to reduce them to the thing we think they’re doing wrong but instead to think about the complexity of who they are.
Ephesians 4:29 - “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29
