WHAT T

IME DOES CHURCH BEGIN? The service begins at 10:00a am. Serve-yourself coffee and goodies are available in the entry to the auditorium beginning at 9:00 am. Please feel free to take them into the service with you (did we mention we’re informal?). There will be greeters at the door into the sanctuary (auditorium) who will be able to answer your questions. WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN? There is a nursery for babies and toddlers where little ones receive tender care throughout the service. The door to the nursery is in the entry area, to the left of the auditorium door. Your baby will be lovingly welcome there, if you wish. There will be activities for children during the message portion of the service. Children are invited to sit with you and join in the singing part of the service. They may leave the service after the music (ask a greeter for more information). Feel free to go with your child to introduce them. Babies and children are always welcome to stay with you in the service, if you prefer. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? We celebrate that we are a diverse group, & we invite you to just be you. Some people may dress up & others may come in T-shirts and shorts, so we encourage you to wear whatever you will feel most comfortable in. WHAT ABOUT PARKING? There are two parking lots directly behind the church, entered from Jordan Ave, as well as on-street parking on Jordan (no parking on Seaward or Ocean Ave.). WHERE ARE RESTROOMS LOCATED? There are men’s and women’s restrooms in the hall between the auditorium and the fellowship room. There is a unisex, handicap accessible restroom in the entry, to the right of the auditorium door. There is a women’s restroom on the far side of the auditorium, with the door located at the back of the auditorium, next to the tech booth. Ask a greeter for directions to any of the locations. There are also restrooms in the children’s areas. WILL I BE EXPECTED TO GIVE MONEY? An offering will be taken so that frequent attenders have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the church & God’s larger kingdom as an expression of their love and gratitude to God. However, no one is obligated to give, and as a visitor, you are our guest & do not need to participate in the offering. We’ll be looking for you! Hope you’ll come!

Beatitudes in everyday language:

Blessed are those who are poor at being spiritual,
For the kingdom of heaven is well-suited for ordinary people.

Blessed are the depressed who mourn and grieve,
For they create space to encounter comfort from another.

Blessed are the gentle and trusting, who are not grasping and clutching,
For God will personally guarantee their share when heaven and earth become one.

Blessed are those who ache for the world to be made right,
For them the government of God is a dream come true.

Blessed are those who give mercy,
For they will get it back when they need it most.

Blessed are those who have a clean window in their soul,
For they will perceive God when and where others don’t.

Blessed are the bridge-builders in a war-torn world,
For they are God’s children working in the family business.

Blessed are those who are mocked and misunderstood for the right reasons,
For the kingdom of heaven comes to earth amidst such persecution.

Frederick Buechner :
“If we only had eyes to see and ears to hear and wits to understand, we would know that the Kingdom of God in the sense of holiness, goodness, beauty is as close as breathing and is crying out to born both within ourselves and within the world; we would know that the Kingdom of God is what we all of us hunger for above all other things even when we don’t know its name or realize that it’s what we’re starving to death for. The Kingdom of God is where our best dreams come from and our truest prayers. We glimpse it at those moments when we find ourselves being better than we are and wiser than we know. We catch sight of it when at some moment of crisis a strength seems to come to us that is greater than our own strength. The Kingdom of God is where we belong. It is home, and whether we realize it or not, I think we are all of us homesick for it.”

“Jesus announced the good news of pardon, amnesty, liberation, and restoration. He came to close the book on vengeance. Jesus doesn’t bless revenge; He blesses mercy and teaches that the mercy we show to our enemies is the mercy that will be shown to us. If we commit to loving our enemies, Jesus will abide with us and help us learn how to do it.” Brian Zahnd
