We’ve got a lot to do before our first service using Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura’s space on June 14 at 4pm! And we’d love your help.

This Saturday at 9am we’ll be loading up a U-Haul and unloading things at the new space. Lunch will be provided afterward.

On Sunday the 7th we’ll be doing a Work Day in place of our service, at 10:30am. Everything left at Suite J on this day will be up for grabs, and we’ll need to determine what is in good shape and can get donated, and what is junk and needs to be tossed. We’ll also be doing some light cleaning.

Then the following Sunday we hope you’ll join us at UU at 4pm for our first service in the new space! We plan to have a meal together following that service. Menu TBD.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected]!

We had a great final service in Suite J today. Thank you to everyone who came. If you took any photos or videos of the farewell bash we had afterward please send them to [email protected]!

We won’t be holding a service next Sunday, June 7th, but instead will have a work day to go through items to either donate or toss, and to do some general cleaning. So we’ll see you then at 10:30am.

And the following Sunday, June 14th, will be our first service at 4:00pm at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Ventura!

A caucasian man stands on a stage at a podium. Behind him are instruments on the stage. A screen shows a John O’Donohue quote which says, “A threshold is not a simple boundary; it is a frontier that divides two different territories, rhythms and atmospheres. Indeed, it is a lovely testimony to the fullness and integrity of an experience or a stage of life that it intensifies toward the end into a real frontier that cannot be crossed without the heart being passionately engaged and woken up. At this threshold a great complexity of emotions comes alive: confusion, fear, excitement, sadness, hope. This is one of the reasons such vital crossing were always clothed in ritual. It is wise in your own life to be able to recognize and acknowledge the key thresholds; to take your time; to feel all the varieties of presence that accrue there… The time has come to cross.”

From our Youth Director, Kelsey Owen:

As many of you know, my work as a Teacher of the Deaf brought me a move to the central coast last year. Needless to say, this has been a tough commute and quite a feat balancing work, life in a new city, and youth ministry. It’s been a very challenging but uniquely rewarding time of balancing these things, and now I’m sad to say that this time is coming to an end and I will be entering a new season and stepping out of the Youth Director position. I will be having surgery in early June, so while I will be overseeing youth events and content through the summer I will not be present for our upcoming move. I will however still oversee our Blend Retreat at the end of summer and will seek to ensure that the youth are well settled in the new building before fully bowing out of my duties. Mind you, bowing out of my duties does not mean bowing out completely from all of you lovely people. Please plan visits to the central coast, and please keep in touch so we can get together when I continue to visit Ventura.

While this is all so bittersweet for me, I’m filled with so much gratitude for the way this community has blessed my life in the last ten years. It also will remain one of the best privileges of my life that I got to serve as youth director these last six years of my time at the church. This community has seen me through surgeries, grief, graduations, joy, many moves (even moves to multiple different cities, holy cow!), career changes, and so so much rich life lived in the company of such lovely people seeking and sharing in the Divine.

I’m so blessed to enter into a new season having experienced so much love and life in this place, and to know that as the church enters a new season also the youth will be in good hands. Andy Fabbro will be taking on the role of interim youth director and will be working with me through the transition until a permanent youth director is found. I am beyond thankful that he is willing to step into the role! Please welcome him to this role well, and I know you will shower him with the same support you have given me for all these years.

All my deepest love and appreciation,
Kels

We are officially signing a rental agreement to share space with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura (UU for short)!

Starting Sunday, June 14th we will be meeting at 5654 Ralston Street in Ventura. And our new start time will be 4:00pm!

So, now the fun really starts! We’ll need lots of help with moving stuff and prepping our new space - we have our own dedicated office, kid’s room and bulletin board space that need a Liminal makeover.

We are also planning a time for folks to see the new space before our first service. We’ll let you know once we have a date confirmed.

We’re so thankful to the folks at UU, who have been very kind and open-handed in allowing us to use their space for a time.

Please be on the lookout for more information!

We’re throwing a party and it’s going to be a banger!

May 31st will be our last service in Suite J, our current location, and afterwards we’ll be throwing open the doors, cooking up some lunch, and raising the roof.

We’ve got so much to celebrate - all the amazing times we’ve had in this place, all the wonderful people who have been a part of it, and all the new adventures on the horizon.

So come eat some delicious, free food, play some games, reminisce, and enjoy a live 90s/00s cover band (with some faces you might even recognize.)

Don’t miss it - it’s gonna be all that and a bag of chips!

Please RSVP via the link in the comments below.
