Rising gang crime in Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince is limiting access to education and is preventing thousands of children from going to school. Since 2020, gang-related violence has led to school closures, and children have become easy prey for gang recruitment.

At least three people were killed, including the suspect, and six others injured after a shooting Monday morning at Central Visual & Performing Arts High School in south St. Louis.

This morning I got a gut-wrenching text from someone who works at Children’s Hospital in St Louis.

“There was a mass school shooting here in STL (an hour ago)— just down the street from Children’s Hospital. 6 injured & were rushed here to the ER. Can we talk today about the Red Cord Network??

…the hospital is crazy right now…it’s heartbreaking…”

Sgt Perez and Officer McCrary called my office on speaker phone yesterday to ask if I’d be willing to be on an anti-violence committee assembled by Chief Law, that will seek solutions to violence in Jennings, St Louis City and surrounding municipalities. This will be comprised of elected officials and community leaders.

We meet in October 21st. If anyone has any research, input, ideas or inspiration that can be shared, please let me know.

CANCELLED EVENT

The mayor of Jennings has cancelled the Red Cord Prayer Vigil in Jennings due to the COVID-19. It was scheduled on 3/21/20. We will send out more information when it is rescheduled.
