WHY? | Guest Speaker Robert Hensley

If God is good, why do hard things happen?
It’s a question almost every believer has asked—and sometimes the hardest part is admitting that we’ve asked it.
In this message, guest speaker Robert Hensley takes us into Genesis 18 and Romans 8 to consider what Scripture says when suffering, loss, and faith collide.
The Bible doesn’t promise us a life without pain, nor does it give us an explanation for every “why.” Instead, it points us to something we can hold onto when the answers don’t come: the unchanging character and love of God.
When we cannot understand what God is doing, we can still trust who God is.

🎉 FOUR YEARS OF GOD’S FAITHFULNESS!
On September 11, 2022, The Church at Wellen Park gathered for the very first time.
Four years later, we have so much to thank God for.
Lives have been changed. People have found a church family. The gospel has been proclaimed. New believers have followed Jesus in baptism. Friendships have formed. Prayers have been answered. And through every season, God has been faithful.
On Sunday, September 13 at 10:00 AM, we will celebrate our four-year anniversary and, most importantly, remember the One who made all of this possible.
As part of our gathering, we will share Communion / the Lord’s Supper, remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus and celebrating the grace that brought us together in the first place.

What do you do when you have prayed, trusted God, and tried to remain faithful...but life still hurts?
In the conclusion of our series, The Sufficiency of Our Shepherd, we turn to 1 Peter 5:6–11 and discover what it really means to cast our cares on God.
Casting does not mean pretending the problem is gone. It means doing what God has faithfully given us to do today—and trusting our Shepherd with what only He can carry.
There can be suffering after surrender.
There can be tears after trust.
There can be unanswered questions after prayer.
But suffering does not get the final word.
The God of all grace will Himself restore His people.
And ultimately, our hope reaches beyond this life. Jesus is coming again. The valley has an ending. Suffering has an ending. Death has an ending.

Our Shepherd will get His sheep home.

Our Shepherd Protects | John 10:1–18
We spend an enormous amount of our lives trying to protect ourselves.
We plan. We prepare. We save. We listen to experts. We try to anticipate what might be coming around the corner.
There is wisdom in preparation. But eventually, every one of us discovers something humbling:
We cannot see far enough to shepherd ourselves.
In John 10:1–18, Jesus introduces Himself as the Good Shepherd. He knows His sheep. He goes before them. He does not run when danger comes. And ultimately, He lays down His life for His sheep.
The protection Jesus promises does not mean that wolves never come or that painful things never happen. Our security rests in something far greater:
Whatever happens to me, I belong to Jesus.
In this message from The Sufficiency of Our Shepherd, we discover why we can trust the Shepherd when we cannot see what is ahead—and how the cross reveals the greatest protection He has ever provided.

We love our community—and we’re grateful for every opportunity God gives us to serve the people who make it such a special place to call home.

Over the past several days, that has meant serving meals, lending some extra hands, encouraging teachers and staff, and simply showing up where help was needed.

None of it is complicated. We simply believe that loving our neighbors should look like something.

Thank you, church family, for serving so faithfully and so quietly. And to the teachers, staff, students, and families heading back to school this week: we’re praying for you and cheering you on.

Our Shepherd’s Presence | Psalm 23:3–4

What happens when the path God allows is not the path we would have chosen?

Psalm 23 never promises a life without valleys. Instead, David gives us something far more precious:

“You are with me.”

There are seasons when we cannot make sense of the road ahead. A diagnosis we never expected. Grief that still hurts. A relationship that remains broken. A future we cannot see clearly. Sometimes we have prayed and prayed, and still don't understand why the road looks the way it does.

Psalm 23 reminds us that the presence of a valley does not mean the absence of the Shepherd.

The Shepherd who leads beside quiet waters is the same Shepherd who walks with His sheep through the darkest valley.

In this message from The Sufficiency of Our Shepherd, we discover that our confidence is not found in understanding every turn in the road. It is found in knowing the One who leads us.

The Shepherd may lead us along a path we would not have chosen...but He will never lead us along a path He is unwilling to walk with us.

The Lord is always at work.
These photos are a small glimpse of what God is doing through faithful believers in Venezuela. Families are being fed. Children who have lost so much are being cared for. Medical needs are being met. The Gospel is continuing to bring hope where circumstances often seem hopeless.
We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with a faithful pastor who is serving his community with the love of Christ every day. Thank you to everyone who has prayed and given so generously. Your gifts have become an expression of God's compassion to people who desperately need to know they are not forgotten.
Please continue to pray for the people of Venezuela—for strength, daily provision, open hearts to the Gospel, and for God's protection and wisdom for those faithfully serving Him there.
