When Jesus Shows His Rank…

Many only think of Jesus as a lowly savior who humbled Himself and went to the cross for sins. The people of Jesus’ day saw Him as a rather unassuming being that had no reason to be attracted to him in an earthly way. While it is true that Jesus came to be one of us it is also true that He ranks far above us and is unlike us. While He initially came to save sinners He will also one day come to judge it in perfect righteousness. God gives us a clear vision of the glory of Jesus Christ in Revelation 19:11-21 today. Yet, this picture of Jesus is not the one we often assume of Him. Still it causes us to take Him seriously.

The Dirge and the Victory Song

Can one song mean two different things to two different groups of people? Better yet can one event mean something good to someone and something bad to someone else? As we’ve looked at the book of Revelation we have seen that this world’s system that is opposed to God will one day be gone. When that day comes, there will be two reactions. Some will rejoice seeing that God has won and finally has done away with sin and will rule and reign over all. Some, however, will weep, mourn and fear knowing that all they’ve lived for is gone. Today in Revelation 18-19:10 we see two songs. Perhaps we might even call it one song but written from two perspective. One part of the song is from the perspective of heaven after the end of this world’s system. The other part is the perspective of the people of this world that have lived according to the system of this world. The questions we should ask ourselves is: Which group are you a part of? How will you respond when that day comes?

The Mugshot Looks Different
Revelation 17

This world with all its glitz and glamour can look appealing. The values, beliefs, morals and thinking of this current world and its system seems like what we should do in order to gain the pleasures, joys, riches, fame and fortune that this world possesses. But, what if all is not as it appears? What if we are choosing to see this world with all its makeup and digital touch ups instead of seeing it after it just got its mugshot. Today in the book of Revelation we see for ourselves what the world really looks like and why God’s people do not want to join with her. In the book of Revelation chapter 17 we see the world for what it is. As such it trains our hearts to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

Rejecting God Because of His Judgments

God’s judgment is something that is hard for us to comprehend as human beings. We think in our earthly perspective that very few deserve God’s judgment and especially those we know and love. But, what we really need to is to look at God’s judgment through the lens of heaven rather than our own earthly understanding. In the book of Revelation we are given vivid imagery about God and who He is as well as His justice against sin. If we learn to look at God’s justice from a heavenly perspective it isn’t as if our discomfort with these concepts will go away. However, we can still see that God is good and His judgments are right even if we have a hard time comprehending it. That is the perspective we are given in Revelation 15-16.

The last two weeks in our study of Revelation we have seen the difficulties that the Christian must go through if they are to be a Christian. They often face the pressure of human authorities that would use their powers to persecute God’s people as has happened throughout history and even today in countries where Christianity is illegal or conversion is punishable. They also face the difficulty of deception. Our enemy likes to subtly lead people astray and God’s people must resist it. Why should we as Christians continue to endure in the faith and resist God’s enemy? The short answer is because God will be victorious and with Him, His people will be victorious. What does that look like? Today in chapter 14 we have a glimpse at what will happen at the very end and the reason why it is worth it to endure to the very end.

The Tactics of Enemy Agents (Part 2)

There is a real enemy of God and His people. He is unseen but his works are seen. Today we see how this enemy operates through deception and counterfeit. Not everyone who speaks on behalf of God is really from God. Not all signs that someone might show are really from God. When the enemy would seek to pressure God’s people into compromising we need wisdom to see through what our enemy is doing and how we resist. Today in the book of Revelation chapter 13 we see through symbols the kinds of deception and oppression we are up against. In the process we see how we can be better prepared for the fight.

The Tactics of Enemy Agents (Part 1)

God’s people have an enemy. He hates God, God’s people and wants to bring destruction to people in this world. But, we are not unaware of how he chooses to operate. Today in the book of Revelation, we see, through symbols, the kinds of attacks our enemy uses. In seeing these things, we are given what we need so that we might endure.
