Blooming women

At the garden’s edge
I see the waiting women
of all time.

From the margin of history
they put the buds
of their silence
into my hands
outstretched from the future.

And the flowers that open
are vibrant and outrageous
blooming with all the colours
of a new centre of being
which is my body
and my surprise.

A very thin place

Iona is a very thin place.
Glasgow is something else,
or is it?
God of beauty and wonder,
of prayer and politics,
we pray for all whose lives
have been blessed and turned around by you,
whether on the island of Iona
or on country roads or city streets.
Circle them with your grace and love.
Lead them into justice and wholeness.
Bless them always
and keep them close to you.
We pray in Jesus’ name
and in the Spirit’s joy and power.
