VASSALBORO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD

Ten years ago, eighteen members of the Vassalboro United Methodist Church (VUMC) read and discussed Adapt to Thrive, a book meant to help leadership “identify their own unique ministry setting and make changes to fulfill their purpose.” The group recognized that, as an aging population, they had to find ways to grow in numbers and diversity or soon be forced to close their doors as so many other UMCs had already done. Blessed are the dog-walkers,
for they shall discover the kingdom’s streets.

Suffering

Suffering people trailing, waiting …
for the test result,
the doctor’s verdict, food to eat,
war to end.

Suffering landscape, fading, waiting …
for the rain to fall,
the sun to shine,
rubbish removed, landmines cleared.

Suffering planet, heating, waiting …
for laws to change, action to be taken,
gentle footprints,
love for all life.
