Did you know that the home of St. Ephrem, whose prayer we reflected on in the homily today, Edessa (modern day ŞanlıUrfa, Turkey), is only a day's journey on foot from Harran where the Patriarch Abraham lived before being called by God to go to the Promised Land (Genesis 11:31) as we heard in today's First Reading? This fertile land on a tributary of the Euphrates has indeed raised up many faithful witnesses to God's mercy!
